Extra Curricular Information

Not a positive but think it is important for those future '0Ls looking that my situation is understood.

In addition to my 2.5 cumulative GPA which in and of itself would be a great barrier to getting into T1 law schools, I have 3 DUI convictions. These 3 occurred over a period of 3 years '04 through '06. All of the legal ramifications from these had been completed at the time of my applications as well as the Jail time that I had to serve.

I had since entered into a rehab program and when I applied to school had 4 years of sobriety. These sober years also contributed to my academic change as I managed over a 3.9 in the 90 credits that I took when I returned to school.

I put this in here because I know how hard it was to assess if I had any realistic chance of attending Law School given all my issues, "Extreme Splitter" and Legal issues. It requires a commitment to turning your life around, being able to document that through examples as well as articulating it in addendum and interviews (if you can get them.)

It would have been nice for me to know before I began the whole process that it was not a hopeless endeavor. Thankfully I found that it not to be the case and subsequently I hope this profile helps someone else take heart.

Additional info & updates

Prior Military. GPA is a reflection of time wasted in school before entering the Marine Corps. Since being out returned an took last 90 credits for my BA GPA 3.8 in Major GPA 4.0 and GPA from University awarding my BA 3.93 so the 2.5 cumulative is based on 200 credit hours and unsure how it will be treated by admissions.

3/30 - Went the W&L ASW a few weekends ago and was significantly impressed. Looks like a place I will not only be comfortable at but also successful. Additionally the opportunities available for additional activities surprised me at such a small law school. The honor system for both the UG and Law school also a major selling point for me as a Marine.

2/28 - No surprise rejection from GULC though not sure why it took 4 months to figure that out. Thanks for the ride Georgetown sweating it out has been fun.

2/25 - So comes down to waiting on GULC and W&M not particularly hopeful for either but you never know. In reality I have to keep into perspective that with 3 DUIs and the cumulative GPA that I aquired over 200 credit hours regardless of my addendum are some major obstacles to admissions. Getting into a Tier One school like W&L was no small feat in and of itself. As long as I can keep that in mind the wait from OCTOBER 29th when I was moved from ED to RD at GULC to whenever they get around to letting me know shouldn't be such a big deal.

2/18 - BU Rejection so Boston out, still plan on getting to Fenway for some games this year but living there would have been nice.

2/14 - Received Rejection letter from BC decision and letter dated 2/9 post marked 2/11.

2/9 - Decision rendered at BC but no clue what that is. Seems to be differing views as to what the info on the status checker means if there are mailings or not if it means waitlist/ding or acceptance. Guess if no email by end of week can assume its a WL/Ding.

2/2 - Waitlisted at GW not what I was hoping for but we will see what the rest of the cycle brings for the few remaining schools. W&L looking like the reality more and more.

12/09 - well at least I know I am going to law school! Thank you Washington and Lee. Now would everyone else get your shit together and let me know.

12/03 - received rejection email from UVA

11/01 - received email from Georgetown notifying me that I was rolled over from ED to Regular Decision.

10/29 - had Georgetown interview 10/28 status and file updated

10/25 - scheduled Georgetown Alumni interview for 10/28

10/22 - contacted by Georgetown Alumni to schedule interview

10/21 - received email from Georgetown offering the opportunity to interview with an alumnus/a. Accepted this offer and now waiting to be contacted by them.

Your LSAT's a good bit better but I feel like we're in somewhat similar boats. I think I'm an autoding at GULC but you have a shot. Best of luck!

Sorry about GULC. I was given a similar treatment awhile back now.

Thanks for your story

I'm in a similar boat on the recovery angle. Haven't got my LSDAS GPA yet, but it will be a similar situation. 1 DUI, drank out of college twice (Top 25 school, started with A's Freshman year then gone two years later, second time was music school in Boston, same deal, good start but the bar was more important). Regardless, 4 years of sobriety now, 4.0 GPA as I'm finishing my BS. Any pointers on your addendum, DS or PS? Thanks for sharing, it helps me to relax a bit!
