TO ALL SPLITTERS: Please, do a ton of research: in particular, ED and "why X" essays.

10-23-12 Vanderbilt interview [15-20 minutes]
Interviewer, an alumni, was friendly and asked a few questions related to resume; all the questions were standard and expected.

11-2-12 Received waitlisted letter from Notre Dame.

11-08-12 Northwestern University interview [30-40 minutes]
Interviewer, admissions staff, was friendly and asked a lot of questions related to resume and personal statement: most of the questions were standard and expected.

11-26-12 Cornell University: deferred to regular decision

12-10-12 University of Chicago interview [20-25 minutes]
Interviewer, admissions staff, was friendly and asked a lot of questions related to a wide range of topics: most of the questions were standard and expected, but a few were unique and unexpected.

12-11-12 Georgetown group interview [60-75 minutes]
Interviewer, dean of admissions, was friendly and asked group to participate in mock discussion over the admissions of several "real" past applicants.

12-12-12 Signed up for Feb LSAT (third and final time). Some of my applications have been "completed" for over three months. I believe I'm on the bitter cusp of many waiting lists. May the gods look favorably over my last test!

12-19-12 Received admissions email from Vanderbilt University with notification that the admissions materials sent via FedEx have been delayed. Online application status was updated to "decision mailed"

12-20-12 Received email from Stanford stating that they had been notified by LSAC that I signed up for the Feb test. They wanted to notify me that Feb scores would not necessarily be considered for the Fall 2013 application cycle.

12-21-12 Received admissions emails from UC Davis and Washington University. Online application status was updated for Davis and for Washington.

01-02-13 Received waitlisted email from UCLA.

01-03-13 Received waitlisted email from UVA. Online application status was updated. [Woe unto me x2!]

01-07-13 Received admissions call from BU. Online application status was updated. Admissions packet was unexpectedly personalized and included equally unexpected merit scholarship.

01-07-13 Given the extended time most of my applications have taken, I solicited an additional LOR and emailed LOCI to several schools.

01-09-13 Received waitlisted email from UPenn. Online application status was updated.

01-14-13 Received admissions email and call from UTA. Online application status was updated.

01-14-13 Received admissions letter from GU and rejection letter from UMich. Online application status for UMich was updated. [My heart just died a little]

01-18-13 After being deferred to RD from EA in November, I received admissions email from Cornell. Online application status was updated.

01-22-13 Received held email from Northwestern. Online application status was updated. I initially misread my status as waitlisted. [Dohdohdoh]

01-23-13 Received waitlisted email from Chicago. Online application status was updated. [Woe x infinity].

01-31-13 Received admissions email from USC. Online application status was updated. Surprised by email because I had been notified that my application couldn't be reviewed till March.

02-06-13 Received rejection email from Berkeley. Online application status was not updated. [et tu California]

02-08-13 Received rejection email from Yale. [Why did I apply?]

02-09-13 Took LSAT for third and final time. [On my second time, I skipped a bubble which resulted in my score dropping from 179 to 176]

02-14-13 Receive rejection letter from Stanford. Online application status was updated to DLS several days prior to receiving snail mail. [I was praying to be waitlisted, but apparently Satan wasn't listening]

02-15-13 Received rejection email from Minnesota. Online status was updated. [The rejection train has not yet come to a complete stop]

02-19-13 Received held email from Columbia.

03-06-13 Received waitlisted email Duke

03-06-13 Received February 2013 score of 170? I am horribly confused by how low my score is and as such am requesting a hand rescoring even though I don't have much hope.

03-08 -13 Received rejection email from Harvard.

@Anonymous Your transcript sounds similar to the first 3 years of my transcript except I also had a few fails in addition to the bad grades and skimpy quarters.

all the best!

Curious how feb LSAT went? If you went up from 176 your my idol lol. Since you're the expert, and sorta in my range I'd like your opinion. 2.8 gpa, 176 LSAT.. Think I'd get ED UVA? Any shot at NU with limited work experience? I was shocked you WL at UVA! Was your app well put together? C&f problems? Thanks so much for your help! Congrats!

Essay Approach for Splitters

Congrats on all of your acceptances! I'm very inspired! I am in a similar boat. Terrible grades my first few years, then 4.0s for the last two. I will be taking my LSAT on October 5 and if my practice tests are any indication, my score will be similar to yours. I would like to know if you addressed the discrepancies in your transcript through your essay as opposed to addressing why you would like to go to law school/your career goals. I'm very torn on this, as I feel that my career goals in the law field are intriguing and could enhance to my application. However, I know that explaining my varied transcript could be crucial. Advice? Thanks! Best wishes for law school!
