Additional info & updates

I am not the traditional student by any stretch, I have a criminal background from 12 years ago and have overcome a bunch of adversity. For those that may have the same circumstances, I invite you to keep up with my situation as I will update regularly. There are not a lot of people in this situation.

I was the commencement speaker at The University of Texas, I have never had a B in college and did pretty ok on the LSAT. Now I will see how this criminal background is seen by the schools. I've spoken with the Board of Legal Examiners here in Texas and know that it is possible for me to sit for the bar. The only question now is how do the law schools look at it....

So far, Baylor has accepted me for their Spring admission and were relatively unaffected by my criminal background. I received a 75% scholarship offer from them as well. At this point the only school that could change that for me is UT. I do not want to leave Austin if I don't have to and would be willing to take on the debt to accomplish that.

Got the call today from the director of admissions of UT offering admission. I'm so happy, couldn't be more pleased.

Dinged at Berkeley Via email on 02/12/2013. Was probably going to stay in Austin anyway, but still..

Rejected at U of H via status checker, not really sure why and could not get any feedback over the phone. I am pretty sure it is because of my criminal background. Either that or they may have just known that I was planning to go to UT regardless. At least I have UT, my number 1 choice.

Congrats on being accepted to UT! I think it is great that you stayed strong and didn't give up. Now you'll get a first rate legal education at the flagship LS in TX.
