3/9 The SATs cursed me and the LSAT has followed suit haha. Didn't prepare really for the SAT and did just above average. Despite my strong high school GPA and extra-curriculars, I was denied a seat at UCLA and USC with my peers. Loved the school I ended up at, but mostly just for social reasons, the students weren't very exceptionally hard working people. To hopefully change things around come law school, I took a Powerscore class and took the LSAT even though I felt I could benefit from more studying and I did how I expected, then I took on a tutor and went in the second time scoring a mean and median of 165 on practice tests, but came out shocked as I got the same exact score as before. Ironically, this same thing occurred with my SATs. I've always been an honors student, amongst the smarter group of peers, and involved with orgs/work to the point where I sleep an average of 4 hours a night, always rising to my greater potential based on those around me. So here's to hoping Fordham takes to my PS, DS, resume, addendum and Letters of Rec haha, and takes a leap of faith by looking past my LSAT, to recognize I am more than my score and capable of greatness ;). Kudos to George Mason for figuring it out first, I feel very lucky and proud to have been accepted.

And to all you other splitters, my heart and best wishes go out to you, let's rock this cycle. If we don't, well we'll just have to make those who rejected us regret it big time ;p

3/15 What a surprise, Fordham rejected me haha, but at least they sent me a letter as opposed to a free/effortless email as GW and Berkeley did. All I have to say is, I'll be working that much harder in Law school to make these schools wish they'd accepted me.

3/18 Visited USD and really enjoyed the students and professors I met, not to mention the campus is gorgeous. I really felt at home here, but they don't offer a lot of programs I am interested in.

3/28 Visited Santa Clara and enjoyed the campus and surrounding area. The tour guides did not seem too well informed about specifics concerning the school and although they loved their school they didn't seem too enthused about any particular program and I found it odd that the majority of professors do not cold call. The school inflates grades, but the tour guides said it is hard to get quality internships/involved with clinics after your first year which was concerning. The school is strong concerning IP, but I didn't major in a science and I just don't think The Bay is for me. Plus, they didn't give me any dinero.

4/1 I visited Loyola and was really impressed with all of the clinics they offer regarding Human Rights, Entertainment and Cancer victims. In addition, the students seemed quite happy. The campus, however, gave me a kind of claustrophobic feel and I'm not the biggest fan of LA looks/traffic wise in general. Furthermore, their Dean of financial aid was pretty short with me when I tried asking for any type of scholarship. The conversation went kind of like... even though your GPA would be one of the top for our entering students, your LSAT is too shitty for me to even consider you worthy, and you're white.. but feel free to call me whenever, you still won't get any money, but it's good PR if I just tell you I'm always available to talk.... #LSATproblems

4/4 Interviewed for a scholarship at Southwestern and received an email a couple hours later saying I got a big one- $30,000 a year. I have friends that go to this school and love it, their network concerning entertainment law is great, and I enjoyed my time there and how helpful and attentive to me the staff was... but I just don't think I could sit with giving up these other high ranked schools for one that is no longer ranked by US News.. still love the school though and I hope I don't regret passing up this money.

4/6 Visited George Mason and loved a lot about it. The admitted and current students were all very friendly and driven. From what I read on forums I expected the school to be in a boring area but honestly you're in a very happening place at the edge of Virginia with tons of bars/cafes/restaurants all within walking distance of the school. Let's also not forget that DC is just a short metro ride away, and the opportunities there are endless. Lastly, the school takes a unique approach to the law by tying in economics, which I thought was interesting. Drawbacks.. you're competing against top dawgs GW and Gtown, it does attract a great deal of politically conservative students and faculty, and less than 4% of grads end up practicing outside of the DC/Virginia/Maryland area. I love this school the most so far, but I think I'm going to have to let it go because I do see myself ending up in Cali when I decide to settle down and with everyone emphasizing to study where you want to practice, I feel compelled to throw this fish back. Very cool honor to be let in with the lowest LSAT though haha.

Visiting Pepperdine Friday for their admitted students day and still waiting for my envelope to see if they give me any money. I'd say it's between them and USD right now. Loyola has the programs I want but at the end of the day the place just didn't feel homey enough.

4/12 Visited Pepperdine. Faculty were energetic, entertaining and kind and the students were probably some of the nicest I've met speaking of Pepperdine being a big family.. and many stayed after class to answer questions I had. I'm still not too keen on the location being near tons of traffic and short commutes meaning high rent or living on a dry campus (lolz).. some of the student panelists/professors were also a little too religious for me and spoke about Pepperdine having a more conservative reputation, in addition, they gave me no money haha. It was awesome to get into another big fish like Pepperdine but I think I'm going to ultimately throw them back...

85% sure I'm going with USD at this point.

4/15-4/16- Wait listed at USF and Brooklyn was random.. but I stopped considering them long ago anyways... yayy for mutual feelings..

5/1 Off the wait list at American U!!! When I started this process with my low LSAT I kind of crossed my fingers for American with its awesome location in DC, liberal student body and its top programs in International, IP, and Human Rights Law, along with its many clinical opportunities. Aside from GW I thought it was a place I could really make a name for myself in the real world... It breaks my heart, but after all of my visits, and speaking with friends who have visited this school, it's just too late to be hearing back, plus their high tuition, cost of living and my hesitancy to commit to living in DC long-term. I hope I don't regret letting this fish go though because it has such great programs, but other logistical matters are ultimately biting at me to stay in California.

P.S. Davis... hello? You there? What's with my app being stuck at: Evaluation in Progress bro?

5/6 wait listed at Davis, hey at least someone was sticking up for me! Everyone I'd talked to who was hearing back this late was getting rejected.

5/14 Just got off the wait list at UC Hastings with an annual $14,500 grant! F*ck now what do I do... I know Hastings has a better rep than USD but I just don't know if the SF life is for me.. and I hear a lot of horror stories of Hastings kids being overly competitive with each other ahh!!! Help... #stressedButblessed haha

5/17 After emailing USD my Hastings offer, they came back to me with just an additional $5,000 for my first year, with no possibility of renewal at this time. Still not sure what to do...

5/29 Spent the last week thinking I was going to choose Hastings, and was feeling confident about my decision.. until I visited this weekend. The Tenderloin area is super sketch... wasn't even there ten minutes before a homeless man grabbed my arm. Call me crazy, but despite the fact that Hastings could probably serve me better academically... I might have to dump them due to quality of life.. I value my independent neighborhood strolls/runs and being within walking distance of small coffee chains and cafes. The cost of living up there is also beyond ridiculous unless you live on campus, which filled up right as I got off the wait list. Crossing my fingers I don't get off the wait list at Davis because I'm over this indecisive feeling.

6/6 Got SD to up my scholarship again for a total of $35,000. I'll still be swimming in debt after, but it makes me feel better about letting Hastings go. So on I go, continuing to be a gaucho from elementary to law school haha. Ole!

As of right now George Mason and Loyola seem like sick options. I'd die for Loyola Marymount lol.

Saturday, March 09 2013 at 06:16 PM

Ya right now it's looking like I'm deciding between the two. I'm really crossing my fingers for Fordham though because George Mason doesn't have an entertainment law program and then Loyola dropped 17 ranks in the new US News report which was disappointing, but boy is it a long shot with my LSAT. Best of luck to you with the rest of your cycle :)

Similar Numbers

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your info haha. I went through a similar situation with my SAT/LSAT and I'm in Irvine! Good luck with your cycle!

Saturday, January 12 2013 at 07:00 PM

so where are you gonna go?

Saturday, March 09 2013 at 06:16 PM

I think University of San Diego is in my future. I'm wait listed at a few higher ranked schools, but I'm over this waiting game and I really enjoyed my visit to USD anyways.

Brooklyn
Saturday, January 12 2013 at 07:00 PM

did they offer you a scholarship when they called you to accept you off the wl?

Saturday, March 09 2013 at 06:16 PM

No, I got a grant offer in the email acceptance offer following our phone conversation. Today I also spoke with USD and they're going to give me 5,000 more for the first year.. but with no possibility of renewal I don't know if it makes the most logical sense to choose USD. I could attend a higher ranked school and save over $20,000.. but the location is not ideal so I'm confused all over again haha

RETAKE
Wednesday, March 06 2013 at 01:57 PM

Personally, I think you should retake, 6 more points would do you wonders with that GPA. Don't waste the GPA...you should be going to these schools for free. Study hard for the October test.

Saturday, March 09 2013 at 06:16 PM

You're probably correct, if I scored my median & average practice test score of 165 I could potentially get into a top 20 school, but I already took it twice and getting the same score both times after studying for it August-December, was pretty devastating to my ego. In addition, a year living at home has been long enough haha. I gotta get out! On the plus side, now I can likely be a big fish in a small pond and graduate in the top percent of my class? One can dream anyways. Good luck to you though!

USD
Saturday, February 02 2013 at 07:00 PM

I think I am going to attend USD also, what made you attend USD over loyola and pepperdine, I am still on the waitlist at the other too?

Saturday, March 09 2013 at 06:16 PM

Loyola and Pepperdine both did not offer me scholarships. The LA area has a number of law schools which makes competition for jobs more difficult, not to mention many students at Top 15 schools have a desire to end up in LA. In comparison, USD faces fewer competition and is the top school in its region. I'm not a big fan of the traffic and smog of LA either. I went to UCSB so I enjoy a good quality of life and some places to run or walk where I feel secure. For Loyola specifically, their wrap around fence was a turn off, their admissions counselors were rude (see my side bar on the top right about when I visited), I was also told a lot of students don't attend class because lectures are often recorded and put online, but I don't want to gain this lazy mentality. Loyola does have a lot of positives though with its many clinics, Entertainment law opportunities, Tax law resources, and it is known to have the most super lawyers right now I think. For Pepperdine specifically, the school overall just came off too conservative and religious for me. One of the student panelists said God told her to go there since it was the only school she got into and I'm just not religious at all, and they talked a lot about their mission wanting to go hand in hand with Christian values and how they have bible studies and I am an advocate of separation of church and state. Furthermore, cost of living near school (unless you want a 20-25min commute in traffic) was either super expensive in Malibu or you could live on campus but then you could never have alcohol in your room and I didn't like that restriction. The majority of jobs are also in LA, which would make commuting back and forth in 2L and 3L years another annoying issue. The positives of Pepperdine though were that their professors were amazing, definitely one of the best mock classes I got to sit in on and we could hear students from other classes laughing in their lectures.. I even had a professor approach me and say that if I didn't choose Pepperdine she'd still help me find a job if I wanted. The campus visits were really the deciding factor to me. USD just hit home with professors, regional status, location, quality of life, clinical opportunities, and a decent number of strong certificate programs. In addition, I have a number of friends that currently attend and they're actually happy law students.

Saturday, February 02 2013 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for getting back to me on your page. I haven't been on the site for awhile. I am also attending USD officially so that is pretty exciting. Are you living on campus there or off?

I know your updates are from the last cycle, but I loved reading your info, I am in the exact same boat, just not a great test taker! Anyway, hope you're enjoying law school! All your detailed info has been super helpful!
