Additional info & updates

NOTE: All scholarship numbers are per year, not total.

Update 7/17: Going to GULC. Moving across the country in a month will be super fun, but fuck it, carpe diem right?

Update 7/7: GULC offered me $20k/year. Did not see that one coming. Flying out Thursday to visit. Might wind up changing my mind pretty late in the game.

Update 7/3: Just got pulled off the Georgetown waitlist. No word on scholarships yet, but it feels pretty good to crack the T14. We'll see how this goes.

Update 6/14: Decided to withdraw from UW. Tough call, but COA would be about double Utah's, and I just can't justify that for UW.

Update 6/10: Out of nowhere I got accepted off the UW waitlist, with a $20k/year scholarship. COA is still much higher than Utah, so I have to figure out if it's worth it, but we'll see.

Update 4/5: After all that I'm back where I started. Matriculating at Utah this fall. I'm still on the waitlists at GULC, Vandy, and UW, so if there's movement things might change, but other than that it looks like I'll be staying in Salt Lake.

Update 4/3: Withdrawing from everywhere except Arizona, ASU, Colorado, and Utah. Utah is forcing me into a decision by Friday, so we'll see how the next couple of days go. Staying on the waitlists at GULC, Vandy, and UW.

Update 3/11: Decided to toss a late app to WUSTL after all.

Update 3/7: U of Utah scholarship offer. Just over $14k/year, but with a 3.35 GPA stip (approx top 40%) for renewal.

Update 2/25: ASU scholarship $30k 1L, $15k 2L, nothing 3L. In at Oregon, but with only $7k/year I'm withdrawing.

Update 2/21: U of Arizona scholarship offer, tuition set at $12k a year.

Update 2/14: In at Emory with $26k/year. Withdrew from Wyoming, Lewis & Clark, New Mexico, and Kentucky. Received in-state tuition plus $7500/year from UGA.

Update 2/5: Offered $15k/year at UNM.

Update 2/3: Offered full tuition first year and $12k/year for 2L/3L at Colorado. Waitlisted at Vanderbilt.

Update 1/30: Accepted at ASU.

Update 1/23: Offered in-state tuition at Kentucky.

Update 1/7: Waitlisted at Washington.

Update 1/2: In at Wyoming with a $13k/year scholarship.

Update 12/25: In at Arizona, plus I got some scholarship offers. Alabama: $26k/year, full renewal if top 40%, $10k for 2L/3L if bottom 60%. Lewis & Clark: $17k/year, minimum GPA of 2.6. Minnesota: $24k/year, minimum GPA of 2.5. Merry friggin' Christmas!

Update 12/21: In at Utah! Hell yes! Got a call from Dean Aguilar, apparently the official paper notifications and such will be sent out in January.

Update 12/20: In at Colorado via email.

Update 12/19: In at Minnesota via voicemail.

Update 12/18: In at Lewis & Clark.

Update 12/17: In at New Mexico. Waitlisted (specifically, the non-Preferred waitlist) at Georgetown.

Update 12/13: In at GW. Broke the top 20, and I have an option out of the South.

Update 12/11: Accepted to Alabama. Seriously, am I going to hear from any schools anywhere else in the country? Maybe I'm destined for the South...

Update 12/1: Dinged at Texas (non-binding ED app) via late-night email. No surprise there.

Update 11/30: Accepted at Kentucky. Apparently they like me down South. Not too surprising and I probably won't be going there, but we'll see what happens come scholarship time. Found out via email.

Update 11/15: Accepted at Georgia! Not my first choice but it definitely feels good to actually be admitted to law school somewhere. Found out via status checker, no mail or email yet.

Utah's my first choice, I'm hoping to stay in Salt Lake and also keep debt to a minimum. Other than that I'd like to stay in the Mountain West/Southwest but we'll see.

might want to look at WashU in St. Louis. Could be good fit with your numbers.

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

It might work, but I'm mostly aiming to stay in the West. The schools I've applied to outside of that were ones that gave me fee waivers (with the exceptions of Georgetown & GWU). Thanks for the tip though.

Congrats on GW!

Hey, congrats on Utah! You do undergrad there?

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks penguin! Yeah, I did.

Tuesday, February 21 2012 at 07:00 PM

Awesome. Go Utes lol. I saw you had the RSL logo on your TLS page. I was tempted to go to Quinney just b/c they had an intramural soccer team while I was there haha. Looks like you have some good options :)

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

Haha, yup. Love soccer, but I'm not good enough to even play on an intramural team--I play on a division 4 team with a bunch of guys from the bar, and I'm a benchwarmer there.

Tuesday, February 21 2012 at 07:00 PM

lol, you never signed up for intramural free agents? We sucked hard but it was fun. What bar was this? Wait don't tell me. I'll regret my wasted SLC years that could have been spent drinking and playing footy rather than drinking vodka alone in my dorm to drown the pain of studying metaphysics.

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

Nah, I never played until I joined the pub team. If you're ever in Salt Lake again come by the Republican, it's a little hole in the wall on State Street that always has soccer on the TVs, and most people there are hardcore RSL supporters and/or play footy. Plus the beer's pretty cheap.

Nice Job on Utah. I am crossing my fingers I hear from them soon... did they call you?

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks Bryant! Yeah, I got a phone call from Dean Aguilar. Looks like everyone else on LSN is still waiting, so hopefully they ramp up the acceptances pretty soon here now that the holidays is over.

Sunday, September 30 2012 at 08:00 PM

for real. you killed it on your LSAT as far as Ute standards are concerned. I just like living here so I would prefer to stay. ill keep my fingers crossed I hear something next week... i doubt they are in this week at all but who knows.

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

Hopefully they'll want my LSAT enough to throw money at me :D. Looks like you're in a good spot though, with any luck they're back in the office today or at least later this week.

Sunday, October 07 2012 at 08:00 PM

So are you pretty sure you're gonna go to Utah or would you really do Georgetown if they accepted you off the waitlist?

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

I wouldn't do Georgetown at sticker. Living in DC and going to school at Gtown would be awesome, but for almost $47k/year plus DC cost of living, all financed by loans, there's no way--I don't want biglaw so I need the freedom provided by lower debt. Alabama's actually in the running more than most because of that; I only really applied because of the fee waiver, but that's a pretty awesome scholarship they're offering me.

Arizona
Sunday, September 30 2012 at 08:00 PM

Do u have to stay in the top 90%?

Saturday, January 12 2013 at 07:00 PM

when you were accepted at arizona did you get an email?

Arizona acceptance.
Sunday, September 30 2012 at 08:00 PM

Hello needamiracle24. I got mine in the mail in a very unique package.

Saturday, January 12 2013 at 07:00 PM

did your status change to accepted on the status checker? A few days ago my status checker changed to decision rendered but no email or notification of what the decision is

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

Bryant: Yeah, top 90% stipulation. That one's not bad though, I figure if I can't stay in the top 90% of the class I probably shouldn't be in law school anyway. NAM: My status checker still says Decision Rendered. The Requirements List updated with seat deposits about two weeks after they sent out the decision letter.

GEORGETOWN!
Sunday, September 30 2012 at 08:00 PM

I haven't really been on here in a while and I noticed you switched from the U! that is to bad. I hope things go well for you in DC though I am jealous.

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks man! Yeah, I was all set on the U, but they wouldn't adjust the scholarship amount or stipulations, so if I got one too many B's in 1L, the difference in cost between GULC and the U would have been pretty negligible. Oh well, I guess I'll go chase dat preftige. Still gonna be coming back here for the summers, because I'd rather not live in the sauna that is the Northeast during July, but should be interesting.

G!
Sunday, January 20 2013 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Georgetown bro. I remember you from orientation at the U. Carpe Diem!

Monday, October 29 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! Hopefully I'll carpe it and not [Latin for being unemployed and in debt].
