Extra Curricular Information

Current teacher who has been interested in attending law school and thought, why not now?

I have a B.S., M.A. (Learning and behavior disorders), M.A. (Reading/Writing) in education.

Also an ordained minister with M.Div. degree from well known seminary and finishing doctoral dissertation in pastoral leadership (completion Feb 18.)

I'm hoping my experience and education will help any potential weaknesses in my profile.

Strong references and PS, as well as extra essay for NKU.

This might be a long shot, but here it goes!

Getting ready for Feb.

Thought I could hit a better score in December with little study.... wrong

1/9- NKU- Contacted me and said they couldn't accept me or reject me right now. They are holding on to my application. Email said 1. Needed more info from me 2. Needed to see how the applicant pool played out to see if they have a spot.
-Retaking the LSAT in Feb, told them to note this and will be resubmitting an updated and detailed Resume.

-Based on what I know now, I think I would be accepted if they knew they had a spot. Hopefully the LSAT will secure one for me.

1/12.... I was waitlisted to NKU and Capital- I contacted both and told that I was retaking LSAT, both have updated my application to wait on LSAT score. Technically was waitlisted but now they are holding on new scores.

  • I too had no prep for 1st LSAT

I took it in 2015, and I did not prep. That was a poor choice. I'm studying now and going to sit for the February test. Best of luck to you.

Have you been studying this time around? Any tips? Have you been taking prep tests and do you see an increase?

I only put in the 144 because it required a score. That is my practice score from cold diagnostic. I have been using Blueprint resources. Taking in December.

  • Oh I gotcha
  • Thursday, November 30 2017 at 10:11 AM

Have you noticed improvement in any prep tests? I never should've actually taken it cold!

I feel I have improved. I'm just not sure how it will translate over. I know the test now. I know how to handle certain questions. I'm not trying to score a 160+..... I only need to hit the upper 140s to get in the schools I want to get in. I plan on seeing how this goes. I'm not taking cold but it will certainly let me get a better idea than the practice tests. I also have the Feb test. I went ahead and sent everything into Capital and NKU so it can be processed for give decision.

Looks like we have similar target schools. NKU and Capital are both great schools. I personally know lawyers from both. I am from Ohio, hoping to get in to one of those two schools. So, I too need to get upper 140s.. I'd like to break 150 to be on the safe side. I have been studying like it is my full-time job and thankful I have this opportunity to study this much just hope it pays off. Have to remind myself, how bad do I want it. I also sent in my apps to Cap and NKU, they both are holding until my Feb LSA

  • T score comes in.

So, hoping for good news..

- dytmomx3II
  • How do you think the test went?
  • Friday, December 08 2017 at 09:58 AM

Did you feel good about it? Did you already register for Feb test as a backup? I believe you can register now, and if happy with your Dec score you can cancel the Feb test at no charge. Double check though, if that's something you want to do.

- dytmomx3II
  • Went faster than expected...
  • Friday, December 08 2017 at 04:27 PM

The test went so fast.... the first 3-4 minutes I was completely shell shocked. I'm a good test taker so I was rattled at this. After the initial shock I tested the first three section and it went well. I was really pleased. The break hurt me I thought. I lost my zone.... I came out of the break with an extremely hard (2nd) logic games. I'm hoping this is the one that is experimental. If it is, I think I'll be fine. If not, then I'm honestly not sure. From my understanding I can get my score for December on the same day as Feb. cutoff. I'm not sure if I'm going to wait and see, then register or go ahead and sign up. If I get at least a 145 I'm not retaking it. I think everything else in strong enough.

- dytmomx3II
  • I'm applying

But I'm retaking for scholarships.... I applied to nku for summer , if I'm rejected I'll apply for fall.

Hey swhitt. Did they render a decision prior to you telling them you're retaking? I'm pumped for February's LSAT. I am so brain fried from the studying lol

My email came way later than the tracker. I knew I was waitlisted for probably 2 weeks before I received an email. The tracker told me. Capital and NKU didn't reject me. I was really encouraged that I was waitlisted which meant I had a chance. But now that they know I'm taking the LSAT again then basically my file reads they are waiting on those scores and it looks like I'm back to being a regular applicant (back in the pool). Capital told me that 2 or 3 more points could make a big difference. I sent both schools letters of continued interest and an updated resume. NKU said that many applicants are too modest on the resume. I think If I can raise 4 points I'll be in. I believe I was waitlisted because of my softs. That's the strength of my application. We will see. I've been using the LSAT Trainer.... It's the only thing that makes sense. I'm LG scores have doubled. I'm hoping that's enough to get me above 145. I don't think I have much time to deal with the whole test before Feb. So I'm studying LG and RC. I can add the other for June.

Capital told me the same too. I wasaid WL there last cycle and then applied again then admissions called me and said my #s are the same and they will waitlist me again but they would like for me to get a higher LSAT, so I said I had just that morning (of the phone call) scheduled the February LSAT, they said they will take it off of WL and review once Feb scores are in. I didn't ask, but I do believe that if I wasn't happy with February score they would hold for June if I asked. I think all these schools are trying to raise their LSAT acceptances. Understandable. Maybe we'll be in school together this fall!! NKU is my first then Capital.

How do you know a letter is coming? Perhaps an email will, or did you call?

- dytmomx3II

It tells you on the tracker under mailings that a decision letter was sent and on the current status it says review complete and decision rendered

  • Friday, January 19 2018 at 06:56 PM

I'm not sure on the letter.... I know that I won't get one from either school..... When I talked to both schools, they wanted to know if I was retaking..... with Capital, they have a Waitlist survey that automatically showed up on my tracker.... Northern sent me an email and I emailed back immediately..... I was glad I went back into the pool because it gives me the opportunity to improve and secure a spot and understanding that I might get in regardless.... as soon as I let Capital and NKU know about the LSAT, they updated my tracker to show that they were waiting on scores.... essentially my tracker looks like it did before I even took the LSAT.

Maybe! That would be great.... however, I might have a change in plans.... In a terrific way.... my wife and I found out that we are expecting our 2nd child!.... we are so thrilled... I might push back a cycle and focus on the LSAT.... I'm going to see how these applications go..... I do think Capital is out...A start date is around the birth date and I want to be available to help with our kids... I guess for me it is NKU or bust.... I don't see anything at this point that can suit my family lifestyle, unless I quit my job completely for law school.... I really need to win the publishers clearing house!

- swhitt10
  • From what I can gather....
  • Friday, January 19 2018 at 07:05 PM

Not sure, but I think If I would have scored a 144-145 I wouldn't have been waitlisted. I think a 145 would have secured me a spot.... so that's my goal in Feb.....try to get those 5-6 extra questions on the LG and improve in the other areas.

- swhitt10
  • Congrats!
  • Friday, January 19 2018 at 07:12 PM

Babies are wonderful. Capital has a PT program. But yes, I understand. Family first. Law school can wait. It's always going to be there:)

Well congratulations on the baby!! I hope that you guys do week on the lsat, my highest score was a 145 and I took the test 3 times as far as capital I hope its good news it said it could take 7-10 Days to get the letter any later to call admissions

- swhitt10
  • Are you ready for Saturday?
  • Tuesday, February 06 2018 at 12:51 PM

I'm so ready to get Saturday over with, and then get scores in! That will be such a painstaking wait. Then waiting on decisions will be more of a wait!!

- dytmomx3II
  • I hope so....
  • Wednesday, February 07 2018 at 09:32 AM

I've sort of pushed law school out of my head since I found out baby 2 is coming.... I've noticed I've been less stressed with my studies and not beating myself up..... My LG has been improved and RC.... I have not focused on logical reasoning....no time..... Hoping I can gain 5-7 points.... I've ONLY used the LSAT Trainer and it has been a huge help.... If I sit for a fall date I would like to use 7SAGE.... Good luck to you. I hope you do great
