Extra Curricular Information

Americorps Social Worker... I spend 60 hours a week monitoring and mentoring kids with rap sheets.. take them to the museum or to look for jobs... take them to their probation meeting if mom can't.. etc... talk to teenagers who need advice : )
Summer internship with the MD Department of Education the year before that with the Governor's Summer Internship Program..
Lifeguarding is my only other work experience!

Honor's Program in College
Received my college's 2 awards for senior thesis papers in my major..
However I underloaded my credits... You know, how you get your AP credits from high school to count for gen eds... I didn't make those credits up with more higher level classes..I just took underloaded semesters instead.

Studied abroad.... and at a different time, traveled alone, loosely planned, in South America

Notice however that apart from working 5 hours a week during school and sitting on a board that met a couple times a month, I did nothing in college apart from what filled my summers. I'm just saying you can have plenty of resume building experiences without being busy all day and still enjoying college.

Additional info & updates

12/4- MD: Status check says 'decision made'.

12/9- MD: Received letter, accepted.

12/23- I called NYU because I never received an email saying I went complete. They said I had gone complete.

12/26- NYU: Received letter, accepted (no status check online). Im an anxious person and very rarely do happy moments actually change my anxiety physiologically, but this acceptance left me with a warm, glowy feeling body and mind, with no worries, at least for a couple days!

1/5- Columbia: I applied ED, and I didn't receive a response by 12/31...I followed up and they emailed me a pdf file...they told me they couldnt make a decision, released me from my ED obligations, and said they'd get back to me as if I was a regular applicant.

1/20- GW: Received letter, accepted (no status check online). Scholarship awarded.

1/25- Georgetown: Status check says a decision has been made.

1/26-Georgetown: Received letter, accepted.

1/29- This is going well for me. I considered applying to Boalt and Penn but they have extra length or extra number of essays, which I had little time to write, so I postponed writing them until after I heard from Columbia ED. That didnt pan out so well but NYU got to me very quickly and I just figured i'd go there above the two postponements, so I decided not to go for it. Saved 160 bucks or so too.

4/12- Went to Scholars Interview for MD on 4/9, today they awarded me 20k.

4/21- And Columbia still not back to me. Like everyone I know has had this same experience. Thanks, Columbia. Mailing in my acceptance to NYU tomorrow!
