Additional info & updates

I originally planned to retake the LSAT and apply to law schools next year. I consistently scored in the 170s for three weeks before the October test so I was pretty disappointed with my score. However, I received an invitation to apply from Yale and decided that I am probably pretty competitive with my current numbers so I decided to apply during this cycle.

1.29.09: In at Virginia via phone call from dean of admissions. UVA is tight. They don't get the respect they deserve here on the west coast but I know its a great accomplishment.

3.11.09: In at Stanford via phone call from dean of admissions. I was in tears. I still cannot believe it. SLS... to think that less then four years ago I was not even sure if I would graduate from high school...

Hey I was in a similar situation. scoring in 168-173 consistently and then come test day, huge disappointment. That's why I spent a lot of time beefing up the presentation of my softs. congrats on your acceptances! best of luck on the rest of the cycle. could you display your softs and dates of when you sent stuff? Thanks!

Re: Why Berkeley , NYU over Columbia

I don't mind you asking why I prefer Berkeley, NYU over Columbia. Basically, after meeting with students from all three, talking to the admissions people, as well as reading through material, my sense is that Boalt/NYU have a student body and faculty who are more social justice oriented and provide more support for students committed to public interest law. Though FDR and the New Deal crafters came from Columbia Law, the impression i have is that over the years it has become a little more conservative, focusing more on producing lawyers for the corporate world. I am also very much more impressed with the legal clinics at NYU/Berkeley as well as the activist-oriented student organizations there. How do you rank your schools? Can you display?

I think Harvard's my top choice so far, but I'd really like to go to Stanford if they'll let me in! Congrats on getting in there! What about You?
