Extra Curricular Information

I'm a first generation college student originally from the Midwest.

I worked at the same on-campus job all four years of college. I also took time off during undergrad for a unique personal experience that I intend to discuss in my personal statement (some media coverage but I am not famous nor nationally recognized). I did not take to college right away and was an A/B student at a school with a ton of grade inflation. I had no extra curriculars and I did not graduate with honors.

Since college I have worked in the finance practice of a top NYC firm and have made solid work connections. Student loans permitting, I wish to work in an under-served area of law. I am also engaged to someone in professional sports and am somewhat interested in entertainment law and contracts after witnessing his experience.

I identify as a non-traditional student due to my area of interest and life experience, my status as a first generation college student, and my slightly longer time out of college. My top choice is UVA but I'd ideally like to be in the same city as my fiance, and the nature of his profession makes it hard to predict what city he'll be in.

Feel free to reach out. Best wishes to all!

Additional info & updates

9-22-13: LSAT score is just my current practice tests, not an official score.

Intended to apply fall 2013 but LSAT scores are not high enough for the caliber schools I want to apply to. Will most likely take the October 5th test and cancel my score immediately afterwards. Unfortunately, retaking it in December or February means I'll have to wait out this application season. Someone with my stats is better off having an application in right away. Bummed, but I've worked too hard to settle for a less than stellar law school. Using PowerScore full length class for test prep and sporadically using a PowerScore tutor.

Hey, just saw your comment since I don't really stop by here much anymore. At any rate, re: Michigan over some other schools, I have no desire to practice on the east coast, so the significant additional debt at NYU and Columbia didn't look worth it. As for Mich v Texas, the better job prospect did seem worth the cost and I didn't want to end up in Dallas or Houston. Mich v UVA was a matter of personal preference and job opportunities for my wife, who's a biostatistician. We loved Ann Arbor, and the job prospect for her looked a lot better there. Hope that helps. Best of luck to you.
