Extra Curricular Information

I have an MFA and have worked in the film industry 10+ years.

Married, with 2 kids, which means all my extracurriculars for the past 5 years or so have involved young children - volunteering at school, building forts out of sofa pillows, preventing greenstick fractures in young limbs... all very interesting to admissions staff, I'm sure.

Additional info & updates

Would have submitted around Halloween but got caught up in writing the perfect personal statement. I thought it was important, as my numbers might leave me on the bubble at a few of my schools of desire, in which case my life experience and work history might earn me closer scrutiny... and I wanted that closer scrutiny to impress, as much as possible.

Did anyone else find the personal statement difficult to figure out? It took me forever to get to something I could stand to put my name on...

Letters and fee waivers from NYU, Columbia, U Mich - others but those are the ones I'm using.

Oh, well, not Columbia, I guess. Was it just me, or did their recruiting letter seem... well, rude?

2nd tier waivers: USC (cause I'm an alum, but please don't hold it against me, it was only grad school, and I *can't stand* the USC Band, give me the Stanford Band any day) and Pacific/McGeorge.

***
Checked my email Jan 3 and Harvard had sent me an email, inquiring, basically, why the heck I hadn't applied to Harvard?
So I did.

UPDATE 1/10/2006: In at UCLA, notification via email yesterday.

1/12/2006 - call from Boalt's director of admissions, yay!

1/13/2006 - letter from Pacific/McGeorge, I'm in, and they'll spring for my first year textbooks, other scholarships to be determined, please stay tuned...

NYU via mail only (would it have killed them to send an email?), and U of Iowa sent a congratulatory email, followed by their admit package.

McGeorge and Berkeley have both offered to fly me up for an admitted students day. Why, yes, I believe I will...

I agree they have a lot of good ones. I've worked as an Economic consultant for the last few years, so I gave the Econ one a shot. With your unique backround and experience, I think you bring a lot to the table and are a good candidate. Good Luck!

hey, yeah by not the greatest essay i dont mean that i just slapped it together in a day. no, i feel like i'm a pretty good writer and i wrote it to the best of my ability, had some profs/good writing friends look it over and im sure technically it's fine and well written. i labored over it for about 3 weeks. but the thing is im very young and haven't had a lot of worldly experiences. on top of that, i dont have a particularly compelling, interesting, or unique reason for going to law school. so i ended up writing about some hardships in my life and although it was the best i could do, i feel like it is pretty average for the top schools because of the subject matter (shows me off well but not too much to do with law school).
