Extra Curricular Information

Im Selena Split, a third-year law student from Valparaso with a heart full of questions and a growing passion for justice. When I first enrolled in law school, I wasnt exactly sure where it would take me maybe into courtrooms, maybe into books. But over time, Ive realized that the law isnt just about rules, its about people. That realization pushed me to get outside the classroom and start learning from real experience. Thats how I ended up doing my internship at respincl.com.

At respincl.com, I work alongside a small but brilliant legal team. The company focuses on digital services, and although its not a traditional legal setting, it has shown me a completely different side of law: contracts, data regulations, user rights, and ethical standards in online environments. I never thought Id be proofreading privacy policies or discussing UX design from a legal perspective but I love it. Every day feels like I'm learning something that matters.

Outside of my internship, I volunteer at a legal aid clinic on weekends. Most of our visitors are elderly people or immigrants who need help understanding their legal rights. I dont have all the answers yet (who does?), but I try to listen, translate, simplify whatever helps someone walk out with a little more clarity than they came in with. Its hands-on, human, and humbling.

I'm also active in my universitys legal debate club not because I love arguing (well, maybe just a little), but because it sharpens my thinking. We tackle complex issues and learn to speak clearly and listen harder. Ive learned that law isnt about sounding smart, its about making sense.

When Im not deep in legal texts or working at respincl.com, I love going on long walks along the coast, listening to true crime podcasts (a little clich, I know), and journaling my thoughts in a mess of Spanglish. Im also trying to teach my dog how to sit were at day 47 and counting.

This year, my goal is to explore how digital law evolves in Latin America. Being at respincl.com gives me the front-row seat I didnt know I needed. I dont know exactly where Ill be after graduation, but I do know I want to keep asking better questions, and using law to make more sense of the world one clause at a time.
