Extra Curricular Information

I figured I used this site enough to WAY over think the application process, so I had better contribute for the NEXT cycle-ers. Also, I was frustrated because I couldn't ever find a match for myself, so here's hoping this helps out...me...next cycle. :-)

Will have BS, MS, & PhD candidacy in engineering field at graduation. Built/developed a couple nerd-o-licious projects.

Heavy involvement in my lab.

Lots of work experience. None of which was legally oriented. Feel free to ask about any of this, by the way. Anything from grunt work and construction to full time engineer and marketing to full time ski bum. The last one was definitely my ticket in....ha.

Additional info & updates

Again, I'll answer questions as they come into my email account.

I wrote supplemental essays to my personal top 10 if they allowed it. Gotta put it all out there, right?

In the end...I think everyone can agree, there is so much seemingly random occurrences in this process...why big money one place and junk at the other...etc.

Weird things of note:

Minnesota - "We ran out of money, but will re-evaluate candidates after the seat deposit deadline and you'll likely get a good scholarship." Lame, send in money to my safety school BEFORE I hear about a scholarship? Why no extension of my deadline?

Berkeley - Accepted really quickly...no scholarship though...turns out the "matching scholarship" program is EXTREMELY competitive, especially now that UC has no money.

NYU - Apparently loved me, but not enough for any money. Did I mention I have no trust fund, am from a blue collar family, and am a poor grad student? oh well...

Texas - Almost literally took forever...that was the worst $60-70 bucks I've spent the whole year with no fee waiver. If I didn't like Austin and UT so much I wouldn't have applied.

UCLA - I was actually really considering UCLA even among the higher USN ranked schools...until they sent me FA with NO money offer, just plus loans...guess they didn't see my interest...or my mystique? :-)

Yale - Not really weird, they just apparently hate my university...take a look at their history of acceptance/matriculation from my school....almost NADA for 10 years...plus, it's Yale...I'm really not surprised I didn't get in.

MIchigan - It really bothered me that their ASW's (1) have a maximum capacity, (2) that combined capacity is much less than the number of admits, and (3) that they fill up so fast and then if you visit any other time, you get none of the perks...even if you were on the waitlist for BOTH weekends....FYI...I still really like Michigan.

USC - Not really weird actually...BUT...they are about the nicest people I've ever dealt with.
