Additional info & updates

10/27- Just finished applying to all 13 schools. i was hoping to apply to 15 but even with 9 of them giving me fee waivers, it still came out to 450~ dollars to apply (money is tight). I'm excited that it is finally over but now this new journey begins.

10/29- Got accepted to Baylor! I haven't received the letter yet so hopefully there will be some scholarship money thrown in there. The assistant dean called me and told me congratulations. She said they did a thorough examination of my application and saw that I was an "outstanding" candidate and that's why I got accepted so quickly. I know it's mainly BS but it still felt great! It also feels great that I'll 100% be going to law school next fall to what I would consider a good/decent school.

11/2- Just got my letter from Baylor: $110,250 scholarship! Woo hoo! I am VERY excited to say the least.

12/15~- I guess I haven't updated this in a while (perhaps no one is reading, however). Thus far my cycle is treating me extremely well: Early acceptances and even scholarships. I've only been rejected from one school, Georgia, but I'm not too torn up about it. It would take at least a T25 for me to seriously consider leaving the South. The Baylor scholarship is extremely enticing, but University of Houston/SMU feel more "right" to me. They're in excellent legal markets, they both have prestigious reputations in said markets, and I feel that my opportunities there are infinite compared to Baylor. I'm curious to see if I'll even get into SMU; or if I get a scholarship, as well. After COL is calculated, SMU becomes extremely expensive and I'm honestly not sure if it is worth the $$. I suppose you can't put a value on education, but when that first bill comes in the mail for the student loan... that saying goes right out the door. If there are any people out there reading this and you have questions that I might have answers to, let me know. Good luck everyone.

1/24- Waiting to hear back from SMU (hopefully it'll be soon). I've narrowed my decision to Tulane/SMU. Houston's campus is dreadful and I can't spend another huge amount of my life living in Houston. The weather is terrible etc etc.

1/31- I suppose I spoke too early about wanting to hear back from SMU. I've been held for further review, which despite it's hopeful connotations, I feel that it is a glorified wait-list. I'm visiting the school this Wednesday; here's to hoping.

Congrats on Baylor! We have identical numbers, demographics, and are both in Texas. Good luck!

Same reason I did not apply to SMU: UH or UT would be free under Hazlewood benefits, and I consider the schools all peers.

Hello! We got the same scholarship to BU law. Do you know if it is a full-tuition+fees+books, etc. or is it just full tuition? I mean either way it's great but I was wondering if you could shed some light on this...

I agree with your evaluation re:SMU/UH. The schools are virtually identical outside of facilities (SMU wins hands down in the regard). Do not discount the free ride to Baylor unless you are set on big law.

Baylor vs. UH/SMU

I read your profile and you made me curious. I am a recent transplant to the south. I like it down here a lot and am impressed by the size of the Texas legal market. I am curious why you say there is a large disparity between a degree from UH/SMU and Baylor. I realize that they are located directly in the big markets and SMU especially is higher ranked. I also see that UH/SMU have higher average salaries. I do think part of the salary difference can be attributed to the type of lawyer Baylor grooms (advocates, public service). I guess what I am trying to figure out is if there is an unquantified cultural view in Texas that makes the Baylor degree so second rate that you would pass on getting a free one to pay at UH or SMU? Additionally, does it seem the less than two hours from Waco to Austin and Dallas makes a huge difference in the job prospects for Baylor Grads?

Congrats on your acceptances! I am waiting on Tulane, I took the LSAT twice 156 and 162, and am nervous about acceptance. Did you take the LSAT twice, I noticed we had similar numbers..Good luck with the rest of your cycle!
