Extra Curricular Information

While there's quite a bit that makes me a "traditional applicant" - age, years out of undergrad, undergrad degree - I think there are a few major components that make me "non-traditional."
-Employed full-time and will be throughout school
-Married
-Raising two children

My "softs" during college were limited as I was an underacheiver, but I did do a lot of work with kids through church and work-study programs like America Reads. I did intramurals as well... I worked part-time throughout college, but I don't attribute that even 1% to my poor GPA.

I still teach in my Sunday school and I'm involved in church service projects. Outside of a young career, young marriage, and young family, that's about the extent of my current extracurricular life.

I also have a good career at a big company with some quick promotions under my belt.

Additional info & updates

Applied to all schools part-time. Need to stay in the area for work and family. Toledo is a bit of a drive but the in-state tuition for Michiganders and the good local reputation left me no choice but to apply.

10/28/10 - Received letter from Cooley and $$, but that's not surprising. Also received confirmation via email on the status of my other apps. (received).

11/19/10 - Checked my application status online and saw "Accepted" for Toledo. That was fast! Takes a bit of weight off of my shoulders.

11/24/10 - Received a letter from Wayne that stated they were waiting until March to make a final decision on my application. I spoke with an admission person on the phone who said that process can move faster, but March is their goal. Not entirely upset because I'm still holding out hope, but man it would have been nice to just get a "yes" and move on to worrying about financing.

12/8/10 - Oddly enough, I haven't heard anything from UDM and Status Checker hasn't been updated since November 1st. Maybe it's not odd at all. Maybe they don't have rolling admissions and I just didn't catch that...

1/12/11 - Noticed that my status on the status checker changed to "call advisor" this morning. Received an email congratulating me on my acceptance later in the afternoon. Now I'm just waiting to hear from Wayne.

1/27/11 - I'm sending two extra LORs to Wayne in the coming weeks. I'm also going to send an updated resume to reflect a January promotion. They've confirmed that my application will not be reviewed until March and that they will accept any additional materials until then. Trying my best to prove my desire to the school, hopefully it pays off.

3/10/11 - Still waiting on Wayne State. I emailed the Admissions Director last night inquiring on ETAs for the "deferred" admissions.

3/18/11 - Confirmed that deferred applications will be reviewed by the 22nd. Should know my fate by the 25th.

3/24/11 - Letter is in the mail. They wouldn't tell me over the phone at Wayne State...this has made for a long week.

3/28/11 - Very disappointed. Received my letter from Wayne on Saturday. No go. Time to make some decisions.

How do feel about Toledo so far? I'm waiting on their scholy info but I just don't know yet.
