Additional info & updates

For applicants for Fall 2010, I have one piece of advice: APPLY EARLY!

3/20: In at Illinois via e-mail and status checker! It feels great to have my first acceptance, especially from one of my top choices.

3/31: Placed on hold at Northwestern. Time to write a kick-ass LOCI.

4/1: Waitlisted at Virginia. I didn't really expect to get in, so this is a welcome surprise. Also, received an e-mail that my application is complete at Colorado.

4/4: Got back from the Illinois Admitted Students Day to 3 thin letters. Rejected at George Mason, Emory, and Miami (?!). I had a great time at Illinois, so I probably wouldn't have gone to any of these schools.

4/6: Waitlisted at Washington U.

4/13: Rejected at Minnesota via snail mail. I somehow forgot to write the "Why U Minnesota" essay, so I didn't expect much.

4/20: Accepted at SMU part-time via phone call! I'm from Texas, so this is great news.

4/24: Rejected at Northwestern after being placed on hold 3 weeks ago. This was probably my #1 choice since I've been out of school a few years. I knew I was a long shot because of my GPA and late application. I thought I would be dejected, but I'm not as mad as I thought I would be.

4/28: Accepted at Wake Forest off the waitlist via e-mail! This was totally unexpected since I didn't turn in a LOCI.

5/1: Rejected at Vanderbilt via snail mail.

5/5: Rejected at Colorado via snail mail.

5/6: Rejected at Fordham via status checker. Also, I withdrew at Wake Forest (couldn't justify paying sticker). I'm definitely kicking myself for applying so late in the cycle.

7/11: Released from the UVA waitlist. I didn't expect to get in because of my GPA and their huge surge in applications, so this one doesn't sting that much.

8/26: Released from the Georgetown waitlist. The e-mail mentioned that they held my application until the start of classes to see if someone decided not to register. I'm shocked that I remained on the list this long.

I decided to attend Illinois, and have loved my first week out here. I urge everyone to put in an application to UIUC.
