Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, I'm happy to answer questions and give you my impressions of Hastings and the area. In short: it's run down and ugly in parts, but the city is beautiful and fascinating, and parts of the area around the school are gorgeous. (City Hall, the courts, museums, theaters, restaurants, etc.) It's nowhere near as scary and bad as I was expecting from reputation, I felt safe walking alone at night. I spent most of a week there meeting students, sitting in on classes, and exploring the area. The transportation system is amazing! BART will take you long distances in a hurry, and $1.50 will get you anywhere in the city via the bus lines, which seem to be on every major road. I was also really impressed by the students. They're a casual and open bunch, it was a pleasure getting to know and talk to so many of them, even as a random 0L who just walked up to groups and started talking. They're definitely not stress free, but they're smart and fun to be around. I'm really looking forward to going. Drop me an e-mail if you'd like to know anything else. Your background sounds really interesting! What kind of law do you want to eventually practice?
