Additional info & updates

Applied to a range of schools, weighted in Top25. Splitter so we'll see.

2/4/09 - Status Checker @ Illinois says "Hold for 2nd Review"

2/6/09 - Lots of news. Accepted via email at Cincinnati. Invited to interview at Georgetown. Email from Illinois saying 2nd review was completed and they want me to take a survey to assess my interest and the survey asked if I wanted to remain on the preferred waitlist? I was never notified I was waitlisted so I'm calling on Monday to find out.

2/7/09 - Received letter from Loyola Chicago (dated Feb 2) that I was waitlisted. Extremely nervous about my other schools at this point. Also, I went to decision at Michigan today and couldn't log onto the Admitted Students site... so there is a rejection. And I thought this was shaping out to be a good cycle.

2/10/09 - Confirmed waitlist at Illinois. Received fee waiver from Columbia today. Not enough URMs applying? Wanting to boost selectivity stats? Unsure but I'm thinking about applying anyway.

2/17/09 - Letter from Notre Dame (dated Feb 12) that I have been offered a spot on the waitlist if I would like to opt on. I think schools (that don't interview) are waiting for my Winter term grades before outright accepting me. My hopes of cracking the Top25 are slowly being diminished.

2/19/09 - Interview with GULC alum. He didn't ask me one question... just asked if I had any questions and we talked for about 40minutes. Didn't know how to read the interview. Rejection letter received from Emory today (dated Feb 13). This cycle officially blows.

2/20/09 - Call from UC Dean of Admissions to congratulate me on my acceptance and notify me I've been awarded a half-tuition scholarship. Maybe the cycle hasn't been so bad.

2/24/09 - Waitlist email from UVA late in the evening. Seriously, what do these schools want from me? I guess I'm not that upset considering it is UVA. I have grades coming out at the end of March so hopefully some of these WLs can turn into admits.

2 weeks and not a peep from anyone.

3/9/09 - Visited Cincinnati today and met with the Dean of Admissions who told me they would be upping my half-tuition scholarship to a full-tuition scholarship. I'm now seriously considering the school.

3/18/09 - Status checker changed to Decision at GULC. Pretty nervous but hope that my interview was enough to put me over the top. I would definitely go to there at this point (barring a miraculous acceptance at Chicago).

3/26/09 - Left on spring break and came back to some bad news. Waitlist at Georgia and Catholic (YPs). Rejection at GULC... interview went well so I'm pretty disappointed about that. Went to decision at Vandy and OSU so I'm waiting for those letters. I sent a transcript update to LSAC today which Chicago is waiting for and Columbia will receive by default. It looks like I won't be headed to law school in the fall unless I get in at Chicago or Columbia (obviously won't happen at either) or UVA accepts me off the waitlist. Pretty depressing cycle but with my GPA what can you expect. Looks like I need to find a job and get ready to reapply in Fall '09 or '10.

3/31/09 - Rejections received from Vandy and OSU. Horrendous GPA and late applications = terrible cycle.

4/6/09 - Updated transcript processed. Previous GPA 2.31(2.63).

4/9/09 - Decision pending at Chicago. Fully expecting a rejection.

4/12/09 - Withdrew from Columbia. Won't be accepted this cycle and right now I'm thinking about retaking the LSAT and scoring mid-170s and reapplying EARLY next cycle. We'll see.

4/13/09 - Cycle officially over, aside from UIUC or ND waitlist movement. Very depressing cycle. Retaking the LSAT, staying strong with up upward grade trend and trying in 09-10.

Yeah I'm really nervous about this cycle too...seems like there's going to be a lot of waitlisting for me. I'm really hoping for ND, but my chances aren't too good. I'm surprised you got held at Illinois though, cause you should be in with those numbers.

Thanks

Good luck to you as well :)

My alum interview was pretty relaxed. He asked me pretty typical questions like why law school. We actually spent a lot of time talking about his time in the District Attorney's office. I wouldn't worry about it too much. As far as how I found out, I went to decision about 3 days after the alum interview and got my acceptance by snail mail. Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Above all, I think I have a lot of luck. But besides that, I have work experience during and after undergrad and good grades in a couple of grad courses. Also have four above average recommendations. Stay positive man. Cincinatti is not a bad school and the fact that they threw money at you tells me you're probably getting into a top tier school, maybe even top 25 or top 30. If you decide to defer and re-apply next year, I suggest getting a graduate degree (maybe a one year MA program), which will demonstrate your ability to handle a graduate-level course-load. If you decide to enter law school this year, but at a school like Cincinatti, prepare yourself as much as you can over the summer (without burning out, that is), kick ass during your 1L year, and try to transfer to a better school. I know plenty of dudes that transferred from UF into T14 schools after 1L. Finally, if you end up graduating from a low tier 1 or a tier 2, an LLM from NYU or Georgetown could do wonders for your career.
