Upon a closer reading of my acceptance letter I realized that I was waitlisted for FT at Quinnipiac. Since I didn't apply for FT I won't count this as a real waitlist. My record... 6 acceptances, 3 rejections.

I am attending Seattle U starting in June (go summer school!). Good luck to everyone else with making your decisions!!!!

4/20/09

Official acceptance letter... 6 grand a year, renewable if in top third of class. I get to keep a percentage of my scholarship depending on rank (if not top third)... 75% of 6 grand if in top half etc. Probably not enough to sway me to the East Coast but nice to have the option.

4/17/09

Email from Edwin Wilkes congratulating me on my acceptance to Quinnipiac. This finally concludes the end of my cycle.

3/31/09

Nice financial aid package from Seattle arrived today.

Withdraw letters to Idaho, Creighton and Gonzaga going in the mail tomorrow

3/29/09

I got my pile of mail from last week since I was on spring break. Gonzaga offered me a 6,000$ scholarship per year if I keep a 2.75. Seems a lot more doable than the Willamette offer. However this is most likely not enough money so I'll probably do a mass withdrawal from schools tomorrow.

I was emailed regarding the PT program at Seattle U and thought the answers I got were helpful in evaluating their PT program. While SU is my top choice, I've heard that some PT programs are not as great as FT. Here the information I received for anyone interested in their PT program as well...

Q1) Are the part time teachers the same as full time or will I have different instructors than the full time 1Ls?

A1) The professors vary, so they are not all the same as the 1Ls, although I believe Professor DeLong is teaching both day and evening 1Ls for contracts. We get fabulous professors in the evening program, but I'm not in a position to compare with the day program.

Q2) Are the part time students ranked with the full time students or separately? If separately, do I have the same opportunities as a full time student to get on law review?

A2) I believe that the ranking is combined, but not until the end of August when the evening students have completed the full first year. There is the same opportunity to get on law review (my understanding is that half of the approximately 30 spots are selected by class rank, the other half by writing competition).

Q3) I saw on the website that part time students can enroll in day classes on a space available basis- are classes generally full or will I be able to get into some day classes?

A3) The first year the schedule is pretty fixed, my understanding is that we can enroll in day classes starting in the second year. I've not heard of any difficulties in getting into day classes - perhaps Becky can offer more insight.

Q4) I am interested in doing Intellectual Properties for my concentration; will I be able to get into these classes and are they offered at night?

A4) Yes, Intellectual Property classes are offered in the evening
program.

Q5) Are you able to get internships during the summer? I thought I saw that criminal law is 6-8pm 4 days a week so I was wondering if people still get positions and attend class at night (I know the summer after 1L is torts but I figured the time slot wouldn't change much).

A5) I'm not personally looking for internships because I have a full-time day job, but it is possible and I'm aware of evening students who are doing internships and making it to evening classes.

Q6) Do you know how successful job placement is for part time grads since the program takes about 3.5 years to complete and I would be looking for a job around December rather than May?

A6) I think the job placement works pretty well - again, I'll refer to Becky again for a more substantive answer.

Q7) Is it possible to graduate in 3? Can I take more than one class over the summer or switch to full time after my first year?

A7) I believe taking extra classes is possible, but goes through Dean Deming for approval on a case-by-case basis.

Q8) I was planning on working a part time job (20-25 hours a week) and would like to know what it is like to juggle law school and work.

A8) Juggling is always interesting, it's all about choices with your
time. I work 40-50 hours/week and find it managable, 20-25 hours sounds like a reasonable load. Again, each person is different, but I've definitely improved my time management skills this year!

Received email from GU saying I was admitted, that they normally don't email accepted people but they did because they have an admitted student open house next weekend. Too bad it isnt this weekend because I am actually in Spokane right now. Formal acceptance package is coming next week and so no $$ for now. I would need a pretty high scholarship to turn down Seattle for GU...

Today I got a small thick envelope from Willamette telling me that I was accepted and received a $8,000 a year scholarship; renewable if I have a 2.90 or higher each year. It's a great offer but I am still really really considering Seattle U. Sadly the deposit is due on April 15th, same day as SU. So I have less than a month to make my decision!

3/10/09
Earlier today (AM) I checked the status checked for SU but there was no updates.... but later this evening I checked on a whim and found out I was accepted, deposit pending!!!!!!!! This makes me really happy because I love Seattle and SU is a great school. I have 4 more schools to hear from but I am pretty sure SU has my heart... unless I get into UC Irvine with a full tuition scholarship but I'm not holding out for it.

3/5/09
I actually got rejected from Lewis and Clark a while ago... but I was pretty disappointed, especially since I thought I had a good chance at their part time program, but what can I do?

I received an email from Willamette asking for a supplemental statement on "Why Willamette". So I think they are going to be reviewing my app soon!

With 5 schools left to hear from, I hope I hear soon because I don't want to put deposits down and then lose that I changed my rankings, following Seattle U I really want to go to Quinnipiac. They have the IP concentration I want and I have a friend that goes there that is very complementary about the school. If you have any information about Quinnipiac, I'd love to hear from you.

2/2/09

I got an email for U of Idaho saying I was accepted and my letter was coming in the mail....

I got the big white package from Creighton. The letter stated they were interested in my experience as a FIG leader (peer instructor) and they also awarded me the Dean's Academic Scholarship... renewable for 1,500 for three years. I think this goes to show that some schools highly value extracurriculars

Thanks for the well wishes. Weird that you haven't heard back from GU yet - but you're accepted at SU! I am positive you'll be accepted at GU but it shouldn't matter seeing as SU is the better venue. My fingers are crossed and my LOCI has been sent. go dawgs :]

I applied full-time to every school. My current job ends soon and there won't be much else for me to do. Bring on the studying/pain

Sounds like you have a systematic plan! I have no idea how my cycle will turn out. In your opinion is SU that much better than Creighton? Ive been to ne many times and think it would a comfortable place to live.

yeah
Sunday, June 08 2008 at 08:00 PM

good call! I was thinking that the west coast would be more ideal than NE! But I have family ties there and it't a pretty nice place. Lots of room to live, low COL and relatively close to a lot of things. You're still in undergrad? Do you go to Seattle Pacific?

cool

Grats on Willamette. That's a nice school! right across the street from the state capitol. Ruth Bader Ginsburg opened the new civic justice center. If you want to know more about WU let me know...

Congrats! A day or two after the email I received a physical acceptance letter. There was also another letter telling me that I was awarded a scholly and that more information would be mailed to me about it. I got the follow-up $ package a week later. I haven't asked for an extension yet. I told them I'd accept the $$ but haven't accepted actual admission yet, ha. April 15th is my deadline. I might ask for an extension or I might just tell them yes but rescind if I get accepted/off other waitlists.

However, I do not want to practice in the NW. Ideally I want SO cal, but with my options it may not be feasible. Ive been to nebraska a lot as a kid and love omaha, especially la casa pizza mmmhmm!
