Additional info & updates

I listed myself as a non-traditional applicant for a variety of reasons, including: my age (I'll be 30 by the time school starts), my work experience, I am married with 3 children, and my undergrad major is uncommon.

8/25/09 - Trying to start early......requested my transcripts last week. LSAC received them today and posted my Academic Summary Report. Much quicker than I expected.

11/25/09 - Personal statement is 95% done, addendums are done, resume 95% done, waiting on my 3 LORs. Will hopefully be submitting apps in early to mid December. Then the waiting begins....and the stress is gone. Also, I have a bunch of fee waivers from schools I wasn't planning on applying to....but I figure I might as well apply.....I mean hey, it's free.

1/6/10 - Starting to apply!

1/7/10 - U of U application on-line status listed as "Complete". Web-site says I could expect a decision as early as mid-February.

1/25/10 - Accepted at Creighton. $15,000 scholarship over 3 years. It was one of my safety schools....but at least I'm in somewhere! U of U status checker says "Application in Review"...I'm guessing I may hear back in the next few weeks.

2/11/10 - Accepted at Idaho. Received a voicemail from Dean Albertson-Ploucha. Said I will be receiving an email and a packet in the mail within the next few days. Another safety school....but so far I'm 2 for 2.

2/12/10 - Found out via email that I have received a $4,000/yr scholarship at University of Idaho. I am showing all scholarship offers as 3-year totals.

2/26/10 - Accepted at Michigan State via phone call....left a voice mail.

3/5/10 - Denver on-line status changed to "Decision Processed".....I assume if I'm accepted I'll be receiving an email.....if rejected I'll be receiving a letter in the mail? Denver would be nice!

3/8/10 - In at Valparaiso via email. In at Willamette via snail mail with a $15,000/yr. renewable scholarship if I maintain a 2.90 GPA. That's a pretty nice chunk of money......that makes Willamette a possibility at this point!

3/9/10 - Waitlisted at Denver via email. Not a real shocker....probably doesn't bode well for the rest of the schools I'm waiting to hear from though.

3/13/10 - Rejected at Lewis & Clark via snail mail. I wasn't holding my breath and probably wouldn't have gone here anyway due to the price tag. But, still disappointing to receive my first outright rejection. Moving on.....

3/20/10 - Rejected at ASU via snail mail. No surprise.

3/23-10 - Accepted at Seattle via status checker! This is the first top 100 school I've been accepted at.....OK, it's not that amazing.....but feels good.

3/30/10 - Rejected at Utah via snail mail. Not really a big surprise but I feel like my girlfriend just dumped me.....I mean, I will still think about her....wondering what might have been......hoping that she might change her mind.....but reality is, it's time to make a decision where we're gonna move to! Kind of exciting actually.

4/1/10 - Waitlisted at Colorado via snail mail. Pleasant surprise! OK, it's not an admit....but at least I still have a chance! I will definitely be sending a LOCI.

4/6/10 - Received scholarship from MSU via email. Half tuition if I maintain above a 3.0.....75% tuition after my first year if I acheive a 3.70-3.79.....full tuition if I acheive above a 3.80. That's a lot of cash and makes me think twice about MSU.

4/14/10 - Visited Colorado on Monday. Took a tour of the law building and sat in on a class. Awesome building and campus. Boulder is beautiful. Visited Denver Univ. as well, but just gave myself a tour. DU is a much more urban type campus....nice neighborhoods surrounding it though. Received a rejection letter from Oregon via snail mail on Monday as well. One more to go.....waitin' on Gonzaga. Paid my seat deposit at Idaho today....but if I get in at Colorado or if Gonzaga accepts me and offers some serious $$....I might forfeit that $200 I sent to Idaho. Gonzaga's on-line status checker says "Decision Rendered"....I guess I'll be receiving some mail soon.....hoping for a large envelope.

4/16/10 - DENIED at Gonzaga via snail mail....really surprised. My numbers are at or above their 75th percentile so I thought I was a shoe in.....possibly with a scholarship......last thing I expected was a flat out denial. I was seriously considering Gonzaga too! Life moves on, guess I wasn't meant to go there.

Well, my admissions cycle is essentially over (pending the waitlists at Colorado and Denver). At this point, it's down to Idaho or Colorado......with Seattle, MSU, and Denver on the bubble. Even though I'd be paying full price, I will attend Colorado if accepted. The MSU scholarship is still very tempting.

5/19/10 - Sent an LOCI to Colorado. If they offer me admissions I will accept, no question. I plan on holding out for Colorado as long as possible......right up to the day class starts if necessary!

Did your status checker say anything besides decision processed? Mine says that plus admission deferred. I'm just wondering if that is a waitlist or if they want more information from me before making a decision. Thanks.
