Extra Curricular Information

I'm going to quote an '07-'08 cycle applicant whose description of his dealings with UNC mirror mine COMPLETELY, down to the usage of "keen" in the rejection letter. UNC, you were my first choice early on, but your poor handling of applicants and downright rude attitude TOTALLY turned me off...HELLO, TENNESSEE!!!

"An ode to UNC:

I wanted to mail in my seat deposit to UT the NEXT DAY but my business sense got me to wait till for UNC, the last straggler. After waiting two weeks I hadn't heard anything and I just felt it was unreasonable for UNC not to tell me. So I mailed in my seat deposit fee to Tennessee.

After another two weeks I actually called UNC to see what the deal was. This was two days before the UNC Seat Deposit due date and still no answer. No answer was forthcoming for me either. Not accepted, rejected or waitlisted.

Just nothingness.

The Admissions director was also quite dickish in her delivery of the news of my continued nothingness.

Finally, on May 6th I received a letter from UNC telling me that because of "keen competition" (I swear to god) I could not attend their law school.

They charged me the highest application fee of any school and the best they could come up with on May 1st, preposterously late, is Keen? After Tennessee admitted me I had made my choice. Good thing, because the loserdom of UNC is especially Keen.

All I can say:

It's GREAT To Be A Tennessee Volunteer"

The scholarship came with the acceptance on the 24th but it says that it's "non-renewable after the first year."

Hiya. I found out today, through email. Here's the first two paragraphs. Totally bummed because it was near the top, if not the top of my list. Thank you for applying to the School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We have reviewed your application and wish to offer you a place on our wait list. I know that you were expecting to receive a letter in the mail, but in the interests of time we are sending you an email first. Very shortly you will be sent a letter and a form in the mail and you should not take any action to reserve a seat on our waitlist until you receive it. The form has a barcode on it that is necessary to process your place on the waitlist. This list designates a group of applicants to whom we are unable to make an offer of admission at this time; but because we recognize and value your qualities, we do not wish to deny you admission as long as there is some reasonable possibility of admission this year. The waitlist is unranked and additional information about the waitlist is in the letter you will be receiving.

Congrats on UT!

Glad you're getting to go to your dream school! I received a letter from a local lawyer/UT grad that was very personalized to me and impressed me a lot. I'll be at UNC though. Good luck with school!
