Additional info & updates

Here goes nothing...

10/19/2010
First fee waivers have rolled in! From my experience, it doesn't hurt to just email admissions and ask. Only 2 schools flat out told me no. Can't go on enough about how embarrassing it was to realize I had told one school that I was interested in another--though it turns out they didn't really read the email--they've given me a waiver! Hoping to get the application process all wrapped up by Halloween, because applying to law school is frightening. Ha...
10/21
All transcripts and recs are in. Just have to bring myself to do the personal statement. Blugh.
11/01
All the apps are officially sent out! Already heard back from UNLV and UH saying they received them (can't update up top, for some reason). Fingers crossed now. American now saying they have it, UNLV is reviewing. Can't...stop...checking...status...
11/02
So I've naturally been looking at other people's profiles, and I'm astonished at the huge number of schools some people are applying for. Did y'all get a boatload of fee waivers, or are you made of money? Seriously, my wallet's hurting after this round of applications.
11/05
I really do think these status checkers are the evilest creation in the world.
11/08
Just realized my app at Chapman was moved to "In Review" on the 4th. Progress!
Also just got an email from Whittier saying they received my application back on the 31st. Thanks guys, only a week late.
11/09
Sent off to Pitt and Seton Hall today. No real reason for either; Pitt waived my fee, and Seton Hall was one I had looked at way back sophomore year of college.
11/23
In at DePaul! Never heard from them that they received my application, but an acceptance is an acceptance. Great to get the cycle off with an admit.
11/28
Went to review at USC. Now just waiting to get that deny. Not that it's unexpected or anything.
11/30
In review at Houston. Let's keep the good news rollin!
12/2
Packet came today from DePaul. $12,000 a year! Not too bad. May consider moving them off of my not even considering list.
12/7
You know, when your undergrad does auto-admit for everyone in the top 10% of their class, it makes the admissions process for law that much stressful.
12/11
in at Whittier via status checker! 2 for 2 so far. Slightly bittersweet though--didn't get any news in the big round of acceptances at American yesterday, so we'll see. Hoping to hear more news next week though, as mid-December seems to be a big roll-out time.
12/13
well, after a month and a half of no updates, under review at UNLV. EIther complete or in review at all the schools whose statuses I can check. Come on, anxiety.
In via status checker at Chapman!!!!
12/16
Absolutely floored by the scholarship offer from Chapman. If you had told me back last year when I got that LSAT score that I would get a substantial scholarship, I'd slap you in the mouth. Here's hoping for more good news from other schools.
12/28
First waitlist of the cycle from GW. Not too bad, as I was expecting to be denied. Need to see some other offers first before pulling off the list. Here's what baffles me though: people with higher LSATs are getting denied (wayyy higher), and I'm still through. Not sure what's going on there.
1/3/11
review date updated again at UH. This isn't getting annoying.
1/7
in via status checker at Seton Hall. Decision rendered and sent via U.S. mail from Loyola. Anxiettyyyy...
1/14
Letter from Loyola came yesterday. In! No scholarship, but great to get another acceptance.
Decision finalized at USC also. Not sure if they'll be sending a letter or something. Time for the first reach decision to come in...
1/16
Offered a Presidential Scholarship at Seton Hall. $25,000k the first year, contingent on staying in top 50% of class. Not too shabby.
1/20
Waitlisted at Houston. A little surprised, but what are you gonna do? Already had a great number of offers so far.
1/24
Waitlisted at American. Out of one limbo, into another. Also, first ding of the cycle from USC.
1/25
Well let's just break that string of meh with an acceptance to Pitt!
1/28
Dinged at UCLA. Le sigh.
1/31
Pepperdine's now showing complete as of 1/31. Well, looks like my application wasn't lost behind a desk somewhere.
2/7
Decision rendered at Pepperdine! Come on, snail mail, get here faster
2/14
WL'd at Pepperdine. Well that's a bummer. Thought I had a pretty good shot. Ah well, c'est la vie.
2/16
Withdrew from Pitt and Whittier last week, Georgetown and American today. Getting closer to making my decision, but those last 3 schools need to hurry up and tell me what's up.
2/18
WL'd at UT?? Whoa. Was not expecting that whatsoever. I thought they would just torch my application to much laughter as soon as it came in.
2/22
Broke the string of dings and WL's today with Oregon. Feels good, especially because they don't give you a status checker or anything. 1 school left for the cycle...
3/3
Applied to USD today on a whim. What's another 62 bucks?
3/10
Come on UNLV, this dilly-dallying about making a decision is worse than USC's.
3/18
Decision already rendered at USD. Well hell that was fast. Still looking at you, UNLV.
3/21
In at USD! No scholarship, but ah well. That was a damn fast turn around. Also received a call from UNLV, but couldn't get away from work to take it. The end of the cycle looks to be in sight!
4/4
Withdrew from UNLV and USD today. Pretty close to deciding on where to go. Working on negotiating now.
4/7
Let the negotiations begin!
4/12
Well, I've made my decision. Chapman it is!
5/4
Additional 5k in needs-based from Chapman. Suh-weet.
5/7
Hello, additional merit scholarship money.
6/22
Out of nowhere, accepted off the WL at UH. Turning it down, however, as I've already made my decision.

Noticed our score/gpa's were similar and that we were applying to some of the same schools. Good luck fellow Texan!

Congrats on Chapman!

Truth. Where do you want to end up geographically speaking? I'm torn between home (DC) and SoCal hence all the apps out west. Good luck this cycle.

We are the same.

The similarities continue. Hopefully we don't hurt each others chances later on. Maybe a couple coin flips down the road haha. Congratulations to you too.

yay!

Hey if you don't mind me asking, how did you receive notification from Oregon? Snail mail?

negotiations?
Tuesday, April 19 2011 at 08:00 PM

hi! I am applying for the 11-12 cycle, but I was wondering if you could let me know how you were able to negotiate with schools? Thank you so much! And congratulations on Chapman!!!
