MS Molecular Biology and Genetics (4.0 GPA)

Lots and lots of scholarships and fellowships

I really thought that I would get in more places than I did, since I have the Master's Degree. Oh well. I'm thoroughly disappointed in that, but happy that my decision is so easy all of a sudden.

Early Decision?

Did you apply Early Decision to Michigan or did they just tell you very early?

yup

yeah- it's sad but true- though i don't know that they care about mine specifically, having a resource showing how you rank your schools, or where you've gotten money, has been capitalized on by the schools- though they look more at lsd than here- still a lot of paranoid peeps took off all identifying info just in case.

Hey there, Yeah, I have heard that, too, but I'm one of those public interest folks who will be depending on $$ or good LRAP programs. That said, Michigan is supposed to be great. Are you going to any of their admit weekends? Good luck with your *secret* apps!

Ha ha...I mean LRAP. The P means program. Damn. That's like ATM machine. :)

yeah- apparently last year a guy was white but raised with parents of a different race, and though he wrote a diversity statement to his schools saying because he'd been raised by them, he checked the urm box, he didn't send that statement to ut- he posted all this stuff on lsd, which is lawschooldiscussion.org, and someone from ut saw it and his numbers, put 2 and 2 together, rescinded his admission, and sent letters to all his schools telling them he was untruthful. not sure if i got that all right, just what i remember. i don't think it's super likely they're "spying" as it would be, like you said, really unfair- but i guess it's just the type A, paranoid personality that seems to be common among pre-law kids :)

Columbia Hold
Sunday, January 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

I got a letter saying I was put on "Hold." What they said was that they weren't ready to make a decision at this time but that my application was still under review and that I would get a decision before April 30. It specifically said "Hold." I don't know what the difference is between "Hold" and "Reserve." Good luck on your decision.

That's a good idea to go to both the admit weekend and again when the school isn't on its best behavior. I would follow suit, except that I'm pretty far from where I'll probably end up going to school. That said, I think the students will be honest about their experiences, even during the admit days. I can't imagine that they'd have anything to gain by trying to convince us one way or the other. Let me know what you think of the early admit weekend at UMich. I'm planning on attending the second one.
