harvard phone interview Tuesday, October 28th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
hey elana,
only harvard does phone interviews for applicants likely to be accepted...it's kind of a weird aspect of the process that no one really understands. the interview is basically a 5-10 minute conversation with toby stock about aspects of the application, such as work experience, extracurriculars, and such. from what i have heard (though i guess no one has really been able to verify this), no one gets in without getting through the phone call stage first.
here is a link from the HLS website, where the phone interview is explained (last section of the page): https://www.law.harvard.edu/admissions/jd/apply/resources/
hope this helps!
good luck! looks like we are pretty much numbers-twins :)

Optional Essay Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Elana,
Yes, I did submit an optional essay for Penn, but I didn't do the Why Penn one, actually. Another question really spoke to me, and I also submitted my diversity statement to them as that is another one of the "optional essays."
With your numbers you'll need no tidings of luck from me, but good luck none the less!

thanks! ts1 call was fine. i honestly don't think he really even listens that closely. he didn't ask any follow up questions, just said, hmm, very good to almost everything i told him. i think its just a way to make sure you can actually talk about the stuff on your application, to make sure you weren't lying.

Thanks, I'm sure you'll be getting one soon too! I sounded like a rambling, nervous fool, but I'm really hoping that he's just making sure we're not lying or totally crazy. He sounded pretty bored, so I'm hoping that's more a good sign than a bad sign.
Thanks so much! Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Good luck on your cycle, we have similar numbers so I really hope you have a successful round of apps!
