Extra Curricular Information

I am sorely lacking in exciting softs.

College was taken up by being the captain of a sports team, and I missed out on all of the clubs/internships chances. I tried to convey the time considerations being a college athlete entails, but I don't think adcoms care all that much.

I have traveled a lot, but I couldn't find a way to emphasize that on my apps as much as I had wanted.

.

Additional info & updates

Scholarship money is per-year, renewable, unless otherwise noted.

I won't necessarily go to the best school I get into, as I am not sure if Biglaw is my future, and I might not want 200K in debt. IBR and LRAPs make that less of a concern, however, as I am not one to stress out about money.

Took the LSAT in December for the first time; so a late start to my cycle. May retake in June and apply ED next year to NYU, depending on how my cycle plays out.

4/23/10: Rejected from NYU. I am accepting my binding scholarship offer from Georgetown and attending. Will shortly withdraw from everywhere else. Go Hoyas!!

4/9/10: Waitlisted at Cornell. Withdrew.

4/7/10: Waitlisted at Penn. Not sure if I will stay on it or not.

4/6/10: Finally received my financial aid award from George Washington. $7,000. GW was definitely the most frustrating school I applied to in their lack of responses to my emails and pathetic offer. Withdrew.

4/1/10: $21,200 in aid from Georgetown via emailing the financial aid office three times and getting them to admit that there is no other reason they would have given me loans which fell that amount short of tuition plus COL. It is apparently at least partially dependant on my siblings' choices over the next few months, which is odd.

3/31/10: Withdrew from William & Mary, Cardozo, and Brooklyn.

3/29/10: 7K more from Fordham. Not enough.

3/28/10: Went to the Georgetown ASD this week. It is pretty awesome and I am pretty sold. Also came home Sunday night to $20,000 in the mail from BU. Not enough.

3/20/10: In at Boston College via snail mail. I need money to consider it.

3/15/10: 10,000 a year from Fordham. The first money I've received from a school I would consider going to!

3/9/10: WL at Virginia. On the plus side, still no rejections. On the negative side, no T10 acceptances.

3/5/10: No money from BU in the initial package. Email from Fordham Friday evening though.

3/1/10: Phone call from BU. In. Hoping for some money in the mail. Also finally complete at Penn.

2/24/10: Officially in at Georgetown via mail today. So excited!!!!!! Also waitlisted at American. Clearly YP. Withdrew.

2/23/10: In at Cardozo with a full scholarship via phone call today. Only heard the voicemail, but still happy. Maybe my best option in NYC as of now...

2/22/10: Decision Rendered at Georgetown. I can logon to the admitted students website, so hopefully I am in. Patiently waiting for the mailman.

2/19/10: Placed on Reserve at Columbia. I'm happy with that. Keeps my slim hops for an elite NYC acceptance alive. LOCI time. Also finally complete at Penn.

2/17/10: Georgetown updated to under review on 2/17. What does it mean? No one knows (well, adcoms know, but that isn't at all helpful).

2/5/10: Under review at Georgetown. The T14 I have the best chance of getting into. Scary.

2/3/10: Accepted to George Washington today via snail mail. No scholarship though, which is a little disappointing. I will try and negotiate with them in a month or so. I would rather GW than W & M, but I can't justify 70K a year at GW over 30K a year at W & M when both schools are 28 in the rankings.

2/2/10: Came home from work to $$ from William & Mary. Instate tuition, which is $10,200 off, and $4,000 living stipend, conditional on working 10 hours a week. That seems reasonable. I also received a $4,000 scholarship. I will try and negotiate for more if I have any leverage, but TLS claims they are difficult to pry anything more out of. With low COL, I am only looking at around $30,000 a year total in loans.

2/1/10: Emailed a one-page essay to NYU informing them of all the reasons I dream of receiving a big purple envelope. I figured, if I am going to get denied, I might as well let them know they are crushing my dreams.

1/29/10: Accepted at William & Mary via status checker. Very excited. It seems like a very good law school and one which I would be thrilled to attend. Hoping for money in the mail.

1/26/10: Accepted at Brookyln via email. First acceptance, and this means I am definitely going to law school. Hopefully I will get something approaching a full scholarship here. I could live for free as well, so I might be able to graduate with no debt. Interesting.

1/24/10: Priority Reserve at Duke via email. Does this mean they aren't sure if they want me, or they aren't sure if I want them? I should have written a Why Duke to quiet their doubts. I will do that now and hope for the best. I spoke with an alum of Duke and he definitely piqued my interest in attending... if I can just get in.

1/12/10: Finally completed all my applications. Hopefully I will hear back from a few before January ends. Duke sent me a priority track letter, which is why I thought of applying. Expecting to be deferred/waitlisted/denied, but who knows.

Congrats on your first three acceptances! We have almost identical numbers and sent our apps out at around same time. Good luck with the rest of your cycle!

First of all, congrats on Georgetown! That is quite a big deal. Anyway, I am also deciding between Fordham, GW, and Brooklyn, and I am waiting for Georgetown (just had an interview and am under review now) and NYU. I am also not necessarily going to go to the best school I get into, so I'm curious about how you're going about making this choice and what you've come up with so far. I'm totally perplexed and lean toward a different school each day! Email me if you want to talk it out.
