Additional info & updates

12/12/09
I realized that the class of 2013 might find this all to be useful, so I updated it. I did end up receiving the RTK from NYU, and found turning it down to be very difficult indeed. I love Yale, though, and at this point can't imagine going to a law school with grades. Good luck to all of you still applying!

Call from Bayard at Penn. He was very nice and seemed to actually remember me from the LSAC fair. I have no idea when their ASW is, he said something about them being busy printing out letters today.

1/8/09
Call from Sarah Arimoto-Mercer at Chicago. She was very nice. Chicago's ASW is April 2,3,4.

12/21/08
Received letter from NYU, dated 12/11, mailed 12/16. I applied for the Root-Tilden-Kern scholarship, but I don't know when the invitations for the interviews get mailed out.

12/17/08
Walked out of trapeze class to a voicemail from Craig Janecek. I CB, had an inane conversation in which I admitted I thought this might be a prank call. He assured me it was real, and then sent me a short email to prove it to me. I had been pretty sure I would get waitlisted, with my numbers, or at the best get admitted somewhere between February and April. This is so, so nice.

Email from Berkeley! Cool.
Also, I forgot to apply to the American public interest scholarship. I didn't realize it was a separate application. At this point I might just withdraw. I think they're yield-protecting me anyway (with good reason--I doubt I'll go there at this point, though it's a fantastic school that I really like a lot. I like how progressive it is and the focus on public interest).

Received an email admitting me to Harvard!! TS tried to call about 1:30PM, but said he had problems reaching me. I was stressed out all day not receiving the call, but I got the email after reaching my parent's house this evening for Thanksgiving (he sent it in the early afternoon). What a great way to start the holiday, and what a relief all over to have my first acceptance. I do want to be open about the fact that if I attend (I am not at all committed, for various reasons), I'll be the 4th generation in my family to attend Harvard Law. I imagine that helped my application in some ways. The fact that I've been working for the past three years in legal services with poor and mentally ill New Yorkers may have helped, too. Whatever happened, I'm thrilled.
For those of you still waiting, good luck.

TS interview! I was on the subway when he called, so had to call him back. I think it went alright, other than my speaking incredibly, incredibly fast.

11/17/08
Got the TS email!!!

11/17/08
Finally sent my NYU app in, without the Furman app. Did apply for the Root-Tilden. Didn't feel I could adequately argue both that I wanted to be an academic and a public interest lawyer, even if both are true. I don't know enough about legal academia to make my argument compelling enough--my draft essay sounded too activisty. Both committees see both essays, so it wasn't worth the risk. Oh well. At least the app's in now, and with a surprise fee waiver, too!

11/13/08
Received email today saying I was complete at Harvard. Nothing about an interview, though! ::nervous:: Also, I went "under review" there a week ago. How could I have gone under review a week before going complete? I don't understand this process.

11/10/08
Had my Northwestern interview today. I think it went well. No real surprise questions.

11/6/08
Apparently LSAC ended up sending the recs. hope everything's okay. Harvard's status check says "under review"!!!!

11/5/08
Called LSAC today to find out why the LOR my former professor sent 2 weeks ago had not been entered into their system. First the rep had trouble finding it, then said it had been "rejected." The professor will resubmit, this time correctly. the delay, though! Frustrating/worrisome. I am happy about Obama, sad about so many ballot initiatives...and still obsessing over law schools. Trying to decide whether to apply to the Furman or to just send in my app as is (with RTK ready to go).

10/31/08
Am currently 2.5 years out, will be three by the time I enter law school. Have been working in a law-related field since graduation.

The next batch of emails is coming out on 11/14. You shouldn't be too nervous - it's only been a week for you. It's been several weeks for me. :-(

Thanks!

American sent me an email saying it was complete and then I received my decision snail mail about 4 days later. They seem to be pretty slow on notifying on the status of your apps. Good luck!

Congrats to you too!

Major congrats!!! And just to think, it was only a few weeks ago when you were worrying about getting a TS1 and now you have all these amazing options!

You definitely sound like you have some more impressive softs and I can think of a few compromising things in my app at Yale. I'm hopeful that maybe they'll like me, but I know I won't be in this first batch. Anyway, congrats!!!

I haven't even gotten to the "ooh options" stage yet. I'm in the "WTF" stage still. How do you even go about deciding between the two? I don't even know where to start. Best. predicament. ever.
