Additional info & updates

Hoping some prior military and CT based LEOs can find this info useful.

Scholarships based on 4 year part-time attendance.

12/02/13 All apps sent out. Applying only to the three closest schools (excluding Yale of course :-))as I am firmly entrenched in CT.

12/10/13 Received phone call offering me a seat at WNE this Fall. Mailing out a packet today with the offer information.

12/14/13 Packet from WNE came today. $8,000 per year scholarship provided I stay in the top 70%. PT Tuition is $29,588 plus $710 for fees, and $1600 for books. This covers summer classes.

01/07/14 In at Quinnipiac via e-mail. Scholarship info on its way. 2 outta 3. Come on UCONN!

01/13/14 Quinnipiac's packet came in mail. Renewable annual $15,000 DS award. No stip's, just have to pass my classes. I can dig it!

01/21/14 Application under review at UCONN

02/28/14 Withdrew from WNE since I don't see them beating QU's scholarship. Still no word on UCONN.

03/04/14 Waitlisted at UCONN via e-mail. UCONN apparently has a line drawn at the 154 LSAT score mark. I hope there is some flexibility later on in the cycle.

03/07/14 E-mailed LOCI to UCONN.

03/23/14 Went to Open House at QU. Very impressed with reception, facility, and faculty.

03/26/14 First deposit in to QU.

04/02/14 E-mail from QU with link to process financial aid/scholarship award.

06/24/2014 All set at QU with e-mail, financing, met with faculty mentor, class schedule just came in, etc. Still no word from UCONN even though second deposits have got to be in by now. Really?

7/1/2014 E-mail from UCONN admissions anticipating likelihood of waitlist offerings but not until mid to late July. Meanwhile, I have already finished my first week's homework for QU (no joke, they are on the ball.).

8/11/2014 Finally released from UCONN's waitlist. I am not sure if anyone made it off the list.

8/16/14 First day of class at QU. I'll probably keep posting on here as I go along. If you have any questions at all about the process or life at QU, feel free to e-mail me at mjpenney@quinnipiac.edu.

12/04/14 Finals week at QU. Going by super fast. I had toyed with the idea of re-applying at UCONN but decided against it. I really enjoy the environment at QU's brand-new law school (we are the first class in it) in North Haven. The school is beautiful. The professors and my classmates are awesome! If QU is one of your main picks or safeties, I definitely recommend going to an open house and talking to some of the people there.

2/2/15 Passed everything, ha ha, and settling in for the second semester.

9/30/15 Into the 2L year. I still think that QUSL is a great choice if you are in the area and not sure which school to go to. Most of the folks that I have talked to here have gotten really good scholarships. There are a lot of networking opportunities, and internships available too.

3/16/17 Still chugging along. 3L year is almost over...Summer classes and a light 4L year to finish. Doing it part-time is sooooooooooo slow. Good luck to everyone in this cycle.

6/8/2018 Fourth year finished. Graduated Cum Laude. Let the bar prep begin. Good luck to all you future lawyers!

We're in the same boat!

We've applied to the same schools because of our jobs. Looks like we both got a call from Dean Romano on the same day, too. I'm hoping for UConn, too because it's closer, and cheaper, but honestly, I felt very comfortable at WNEU when I went to the open house last year, and I love the atmosphere there. I did not get that feeling when I went to the UConn sessions.

I got another letter from QU inviting me to interview on campus for additional merit-based scholarships. We both got DS originally, so you should be on the lookout for the same! Pretty sure any additional will have a 50% stip though.

I did get a letter this weekend from the dean only it was a congrats to QU and to invite me to an open house or come down and visit. :-( I wouldn't mind a few more bucks thrown my way. Maybe another letter is on its way with a golden ticket ha ha.

My scores are similar and wondering how you sold yourself to Quinnipiac. I am retired military as well (medically retired), and applied for the PT program. This cycle is a challenge and like much of what QU has to offer. I am wondering if they indicated what they liked or stood out in your application.

Not Looking Good for WNEU

Status checker said a decision was rendered today and will be coming in the mail. Hoping for the best, but I'd assume a call or e-mail would have accompanied the decision. All the best...

Chin up, I hear UConn keeps their waitlist small, so you still have a great shot! Just spill all that passion into a LOCI and I bet you'll hear back soon after the deposit deadlines.

Wednesday, July 17 2013 at 07:25 PM

Thanks PattyCake! I just fired off a LOCI to the Dean plus I am retaking the LSAT in June if I don't get a rejection (or acceptance) from UCONN before that. Did they tell you when the deadline is for the first deposit?

Tuesday, November 19 2013 at 07:31 PM

Thank you! I think the UConn deposit deadline is 4/15, and the amount is either $200 or $250. It's almost a shame it's not higher, it might give some on-the-fence applicants reason to withdraw and make more space. I know some schools want $400-500. I'm sure a lot of spaces will open up though, this has been a generous cycle for a lot of people and I'm sure some applicants are going to choose top-top-top schools they applied to as a reach and didn't expect to get into.

Deposit deadlines around the corner, I have a good feeling about UConn for you :-)

Good luck at QU
