Extra Curricular Information

About 6 years entrepreneurial experience (during and since college), average softs, good/excellent recommendations, strong PS and addendum. I did any additional essays I could, trying to get as much of an edge as possible.

I took the LSAT once (LG -0, LR1 -0, LR2 -1, RC -12.......I know).

It's nerve-racking, being an extreme splitter. I'm being realistic in my approach, applying widely, but also not frivolously sending out apps to every school in the T14 (which I've seen people with similar stats do, for some reason). I'll just throw a big net and see what gets caught.

Additional info & updates

END OF CYCLE!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4/29 - Rejected at UC-Davis via status checker.

4/25 - Wait-listed at Florida. Withdrew. That leaves UC-Davis, bringing up the rear.

4/18 - U Florida finally says "Letter issued." Florida does this for acceptances, denials, and wait-lists, so I don't know the outcome (though I'm pretty sure I've been wait-listed).

4/12 - Withdrew from Rutgers-Camden. I'm officially a Hoosier! The UC-Davis and Florida decisions are moot. I hope all of this data will help future splitters.

4/8 - Withdrew from UIUC. Their initial offer was $60K, but I was able to renegotiate up to $75K. It was tough, but IU-B seems right. Also will withdraw from Wisconsin, Rutgers-Newark, WUSTL and William & Mary. Looks like I'll be at IU-B this fall! Still keeping Rutgers-Camden in the loop until their deposit deadline. Don't know what the heck is going on with UC-Davis or Florida, but they're inconsequential at this point. I'm only refraining from withdrawing so that I can add the data here. You're welcome.

4/6 - Received an email from IU-B offering $135K if I defer enrollment to next year. I can't put this off for another twelve months, so I'll turn it down. Also waiting for the results of some scholarship negotiations.

3/31 - Accepted at Wisconsin via email, after sending a letter of continued interest. Also withdrew from Minnesota.

3/22 - Accepted at Rutgers-Camden via email, with a $24K scholarship! Very cool. I should go out and buy a Glock to celebrate...

3/15 - Wait-listed at W&M via email. I'll probably hold on to this one. I would probably like to attend, but not without serious $$$. Also, the Iowa rejection letter arrived. Good.

3/14 - Wait-listed at American via email. I have an odd feeling that if I stick with it, they'll let me in; but alas, I have withdrawn. They have a nifty web page that lets you indicate your response to their waitlist offer, which I completed right after I got the email. So long, DC!

3/13 - Just for the record, the only thing keeping me from sending a withdrawal note to American, Rutgers-C, Florida, and UC-D (W&M not included, since they don't use a rolling admissions process) with "Kiss my ass" as the email subject, is my concern for future splitters, and the statistical data to which I'm contributing. That's right: I'm doing it for you.

3/10 - So, what the hell, Iowa? Way to break the three-week silence: status checker just says "Denied - 3/9". No email, nothing, nada, zip. Nice touch.

2/22 - Rejected at UConn via email. Couldn't care less.

2/21 - Received $30K Scholar in Law Award at WUSTL via emal! They are as of now my top choice. I'm going to see if they can match my other offers, though, because it's really a huge difference. If they can at least match UMN and UIUC, I'll be in St. Louis this fall. So far, UMN and UIUC have both turned me down with respect to matching Indiana. UIUC said they thought that since Indiana's COA is higher, their award was competitive; UMN said that they give out as much as possible from the outset, though they first said they were willing to consider my other offers (?). I'm chalking it up to the Splitter Effect.

2/18 - In review at Iowa.

2/17 - Accepted at WUSTL via email! Came in around 5PM, but no scholarship info as of yet. They usually wait a few days and then email that, from what I'm told. Great news!

2/15 - UC Davis status checker says I'm under evaluation. This change happened either today or yesterday. They're pretty stingy with $$$, so I'm not counting on going there.

2/12 - Rejected at Northwestern. I did everything I could: I interviewed on campus, I wrote all additional essays, I had two LORs from professors and three CPEs from clients, I sent a nice letter to the adcomm thanking them for the opportunity to interview...but as it could be expected, the numbers game prevailed. They didn't even send me an email - I found out by logging in and checking my status, only to find a rejection letter in PDF awaiting. The decision was made yesterday, and no notification came to me at all. Well, it is what it is. I'm very glad to have gotten the offers that I did, none of which I would have ever expected. To all of you splitters out there, I say the following: You will taste disappointment, but your stomach will be filled. Never be discouraged.

2/11 - Wait-listed at Penn State via email. Withdrew immediately. Really didn't want to go there anyway.

2/1 - Okay, so Rutgers-Camden sent me my status checker log-in information ONLY after I emailed them asking what was up (went complete 12/3). They basically said they were waiting for my December LSAT, even though I sent them an email over a month and a half ago explaining that I canceled. I forwarded them that email, and they just ignored me.

1/31 - Received short rejection letter from Cardozo. Just for the record, I only applied as part of my "big net" strategy, and would never have gone there without a full or close to full scholarship. NYC is expensive. Also, I sent out emails to UIUC and UMN to see if they could match the offer from IU-B.

1/29 - Packet from Minnesota came in today. $60K! This is very cool, and I'm strongly considering them. People say some very nice things about the school, and especially the city.

1/28 - Wait-listed at GW via email. I'm going to withdraw today, since $$$ is unlikely. Applied kind of frivolously for the full-tuition ED, and I was deferred to RD and, now, wait-listed. GW is pretty stingy with $$$, and they're very expensive regardless, and I'm a splitter on their wait-list, so it doesn't bode well. Plus there are lots of people on that wait-list that really want to go there, so I'll be considerate. Also, under review at UConn.

1/27 - Cardozo status checker says that a decision was made and sent. Should be a few days until I get it. Expecting a rejection, since I did not receive a phone call (which it seems everyone who was admitted is getting). They only send out wait-list decisions via email.

1/26 - Minnesota status checker changed to "Admitted - Congratulations!" Very cool (I do concur with the exclamation point). Also withdrew from Washington & Lee and Brooklyn. Still hanging on to Wisconsin (I do like the school), but I may withdraw there soon.

1/25 - In at Minnesota via phone call (very nice touch). They said that I'd get mail about it in a week or so. So far no email, and the status still says I'm in review. This is great!

1/25 - Wait-listed via email at Brooklyn. The status page says a decision was made on 1/20. Thanks for the suspense Brooklyn, but I'm going to withdraw ASAP.

1/21 - Under review at Penn State.

1/20 - Wait-listed via email at Wisconsin. Very vague email, not sure how to follow up. I do like UW, so I'll probably ride out the wait.

1/14 - In at UIUC w/ $60K scholarship! Email from Dean Pless this morning. Awesome, awesome.

1/7 - In Review at Minnesota and Illinois.

1/6 - In review at Brooklyn.

1/3 - Deferred from ED to RD at George Washington. Totally expected.

12/24 - Received a beautiful package in the mail from IU-Bloomington, with acceptance and $90K scholarship. Completely shocked. Never thought I might one day call myself a Hoosier...

12/23 - Got the large acceptance envelope from Rutgers-Newark. Glad to finally be in somewhere. Everywhere else is still under review, or waiting for review. This will be a long holiday. Word to the wise: apply as early as possible.

12/21 - Accepted at Rutgers-Newark via status checker, and later email. Weird feeling after the initial sequence: Rejected (UT), Wait-listed (W&L), Accepted (Rutgers-N). Let's hope I'm breaking the streak, and not just riding the probabilities.

12/16 - Wait-listed at Washington & Lee via email. Florida's status checker reads "Review Complete, no decision reached," so I called them and, well, I still don't know when they'll make a decision. File isn't missing anything, though. Complete everywhere else, too. Under review at: WUSTL, Wisconsin, Florida (done?), American, George Washington, and Cardozo.

12/13 - Sent out Northwestern. Received status checker emails from everyone except Rutgers-Camden. This is going to be some wait...

12/12 - Most schools emailed back, thanking me for letting them know about the cancellation. Word of advice: communicate with the admissions office!!

12/11 - Canceled the December LSAT (disruptions at test center). Contacted every school to let them know that I have canceled, and to not hold my file.

12/8 - Sent out UConn, Iowa, UC-Davis, and Penn State. Transmitted after hours, so acknowledgment emails should appear tomorrow. Incidentally, Cardozo sent me a fee waiver email (again) and I got a brochure from them in the mail, asking me to apply, which I did over a week ago. Not trying to poke fun, but file updates might save them some postage.

12/6 - Indiana email, but no status checker.

12/3 - Rutgers-Camden email, but no status checker. They are supposed to email me when my file is complete. Probably worth a phone call if I don't hear anything within a week or two. Also decided to hold at Minnesota for the December LSAT.

12/2 - Emails with status checkers from WUSTL, Wisconsin, and Brooklyn. Minnesota sent an email saying that my file is complete, and that I should notify if I want them to hold for the December LSAT. Not sure what to do. Probably hold.

12/1 - Emails with status checkers for all of the ones I mentioned yesterday. Some are incomplete as they will hold the decision until they get my December LSAT score. Also, sent out Rutgers-Camden, WUSTL, Wisconsin, William & Mary, and Brooklyn.

11/30 - Sent out apps to UIUC, Indiana-Bloomington, Minnesota, Washington & Lee, and Cardozo. U Florida also sent me an email allowing me to log-in and pay the application fee (why can't I do it through LSAC?).

11/23 - GW acknowledges receipt of application via email. No status checker, though.

11/22 - Rutgers-Newark received mailed (?) application fee check. They need to get with the times and accept the fee online like everyone else (except Rutgers-Camden, of course). File looks complete, though they will probably hold it until they get my December LSAT re-take score. Doesn't say.

11/20 - Got the mailed rejection letter from Texas. They work fast!

11/19 - Denied at U Texas via status checker. It says that a decision was made on 11/16. Thanks for the suspense there, partner. Expectations fulfilled! Additionally, American status checker email came in. Let the wait begin.

11/18 - Rutgers-Newark status checker email. Anticipation ensues...

11/12 - U Texas actually does have a status checker. Just got the email today, and I'm gonna be following it with no expectations of anything pleasant.

11/2 - U Texas acknowledges receipt of application. Unfortunately, they don't give you any way to check the status.

10/31 - Let the games begin! U Texas sent out for Early Action. Expecting a nice solid rejection.....

UT Status Checker

UT will eventually send you a status checker. Takes them longer than most schools though.
