Extra Curricular Information

Before I went back to school in 2005, I walked the earth, striving to put right what once went wrong.

Additional info & updates

I actually applied to more schools than this, because I had no clue if my poor grades from the mid-90s would significantly hamper my applications. It doesn't seem to have had TOO much of an impact, so any other old people who went back to school in their mid to late twenties after squandering their initial opportunity can take my experience to heart: it's not too late.

So where do you think you are headed, congrats on all of those.

You have an LSDAS GPA of a 2.89 and you're rockin' all of those schools?? And what does it mean to be a non-traditional applicant?

Thursday, December 10 2009 at 07:00 PM

It means that I'm old. I bombed out of college at the end of 1997 after three semesters, and spent the intervening years walking the earth. I went back to school in August 2005 and graduated in May 2009. LSDAS rules say that you have to submit all of your previous undergraduate transcripts, so those 12 year old grades got factored in. C'est la vie.

Awesome!

Wow. That's an incredible cycle! Congrats on all those acceptances. What did you talk about in your personal statement ?

Thursday, December 10 2009 at 07:00 PM

My personal statement was mostly about growing up and taking responsibility via some anecdotes from childhood. It was...acceptable, but it's not the best thing I've ever written. I felt like I had to make a lot of compromises and write away from my strengths in order to "keep it safe," if that makes any sense.

Your GPA isn't hurting you because you're a URM. If you weren't, you would be singing a different tune. Just FYI.

Maybe. Or maybe I wrote something that effectively demonstrated my potential and my ambition. I guess we'll never know for sure. We both made poor choices and we both have to live with the consequences. Just FYI.
