Extra Curricular Information

I have been using lawschool numbers as a resource for a long time now- thought I would give back by adding my data point!

Mix of extra curriculars. One club for all four years with leadership positions. Other activities a mixture of internships, campus jobs and on campus volunteering. After graduation spent time abroad.

Additional info & updates

11/1 - Sent in first applications last last night (Happy Halloween). When I went to submit on LSAC noticed I had an unexpected fee waver for NYU- sweet! Plan to submit more tonight.

UPDATED: Submitted UCLA and Georgetown. Will do a second batch tomorrow night.

11/4 Have been working on applications, keep getting unexpected fee wavers! Hope to finish up all applications this weekend.

12/1 - Accepted at Georgetown via letter in the mail. A reply this early was unexpected, I was mentally prepared to wait until March. I am so excited! I'm going to law school!

12/17 - In at UCLA via phone call from Dean Schwartz. Dean's scholarship offer!! Woohoo! This is wonderful, I am so surprised and honored!

12/17 UPDATE - In at Michigan via big envelope. Nice personalized note from dean about my personal statement.

12/20 - In at Duke via email, pending submission of the 2011 Scholarship Application form. I will be submitting ASAP (and better get to work on that FAFSA). Even got into the special program I was aiming for.

12/22 - In at Penn via phone call. Sounded very friendly! Will def be paying a visit.

1/3 - In at Colorado by letter. Let me know I would hear about financial aid shortly. Liked what I learned about Colorado when I investigated them; interested to learn more from admissions materials.

1/18 - Financial Aid information from Michigan. Came in same day I submitted the FAFSA. Must have been calculated without FAFSA info- pretty awesome.

1/26 - In at Columbia!!! Got home to find large admissions envelope. Surprised and excited! Seriously. wow. Spending tons of time researching Columbia now.

ALSO- Cryptic faculty review email from Berkeley. Guess I didn't get the love from Dean Tom, hope the faculty like me.

2/4 Wilson scholarship eligibility notification from Penn. Hoping to complete the essay over the weekend. (EDIT: did complete and send essay over weekend).

2/22 Back from vacation to find rejection from Berkeley via email. A little bummed I got dinged by Berkeley's black box, but still very excited about my other options.

3/5 Got Dean's Scholarship to Duke via snail mail, dated 3/1. Excitement ensued; certainly a sweetener for Duke.

3/8 Waitlisted at UVA via email.

3/8 Admitted to Cornell after phone interview! I really liked the representative I spoke with on the phone. I think I would like Ithaca, but wonder about job prospects for my 1, who will be coming with me...

3/11 Wilson scholarship from Penn.

Held at Harvard via email. At least they haven't forgotten about me like some schools... *cough* NYU *cough*.

4/7 Just got back from a week long visit to schools. Standouts were Duke and Penn. Now, time to make my decision...

4/21 Lots of emails this morning. On waitlist at Harvard (not rejected!), waitlist at NYU (Finally! I thought they had lost my application...), fellowship from Columbia.

4/27 Final choice made and deposit sent. UPenn, here I come! I am very excited for next year and exploring Philadelphia.

5/3 EMERGENCY UPDATE: JR1... this changes the equation...

5/9 EMERGENCY UPDATE PART II: JR2... I think I'm going to Harvard! Was NOT expecting to be taken off that waitlist. Will always have a fuzzy feeling in my heart about UPenn.

Time to take out massive amounts of loans! Let's do this thing!!

5/12 Phone call from NYU. I'm in! Wow. Though I should tell them I am going to attend Hahvard. I was waiting to withdraw until I receive some tangible materials from Harvard. Wasn't expecting NYU to move so fast! I will withdraw ASAP to give other waitlisters a shot. Though it is awesome to get in, seems I was near the top of both my waitlists :)

I think this means my cycle is officially over.

Post cycle reflections:

- A barely 170 LSAT for me meant waitlist at my top choices. But it seems my high GPA and interesting extracurriculars placed me near the top of those waitlists.

- Two of the schools I *wanted* the most in the beginning, Berkeley and Yale, both turned me down (Yale unsurprisingly, Berkeley a bit of a WTF). There's got to be some cosmic lesson in there somewhere.

HLS waitlist more info

Thanks Katherine! I didn't send any additional information (transcripts, letters etc) after being waitlisted. I did respond to the email informing me I was waitlisted, saying something to the effect of "Thank you so much for the update, I am happy to be on the waitlist, though of course getting in would be that much better!" Maybe that counted as a LOCI? But other than that reply to the waitlist email, I did not send any additional information to HLS. Good luck, I really hope you get good news soon!
