Extra Curricular Information

Out of school over 4 years, finishing the last 30 hrs or so of BS in Public Administration with a 4.0 so far, don't see any reason why I should finish with anything less than a 3.8-4.0 for my major. LSDAS GPA has me at a 2.25 thanks to 200 hours with about a 2.0 at two separate undergrad institutions, '98-'01 (top 25 liberal arts) and again '04-'07 (top music school). It's a very interesting transcript and obviously a long story to be whittled down to the essentials for my GPA addendum. DUI in '03, no trouble since then either.

Softs include 4 years continuous service work in the recovery/12-step community. Currently serving as a General Service Rep for my home group (similar in structure to a state representative/assemblyman).

For w/e I've been a successfully self-employed musician for the last four years (and presently). It's a lot harder than you might think, so I'm hoping I can get that across in my application when it comes to work experience.

Good luck to everybody this cycle!

Additional info & updates

Oct. LSAT
Scholarships are in annual amounts.

12/4/11 - Just got the call from Dean Rahman at Richmond with m first acceptance! What a relief. Probably will not be applying to TN, Cinci, or Northeastern since I'd rather go to Richmond.

12/8/11 - The W&L admissions office is far and away the most on top of their game. The downside is that bad news gets to you quickly and efficiently! Not terrible news, but waitlisted.

12/9/11 - In the mailings section of my Colorado status checker it noted that my decision letter had been sent today. My status remained "complete" instead of saying "decision rendered" so I think they just rolled me from ED to RD. We'll see when the letter comes next week!

12/15/11 - Sometimes it sucks to be right, but I got my CU letter today and they did indeed roll me to regular decision. Should hear in "the next couple of months." I will be keeping the Tums people in business for "the next couple months" to be sure!

1/13/12- First decision of the new year, medium result. I'm in, but with no scholarship money. Hard to justify paying full price with their employment #s and the almost zero clerkships that come out of DU. Grateful to be accepted, though, and it's close to home (2 hrs.), which keeps DU in the running for now.

Also 1/13 - Rejected at Fordham. No surprise there. Only applied because an interview with an admissions dean said something about him loving musicians. I'm not even sure he works there anymore! Oh well, can't win if you don't play.

1/17/12 - Got the UNH Scholarship info today. Have to put them back into consideration for now with $18k/year (3.2 stip).

1/19 - Got dinged at Wake. At least it wasn't slow death by wait list. Also, Maryland made a decision, will get a letter soon.

1/23 - In at Maryland via snail mail. Encouraging because they're ranked right at the same level as first choice CU. Nice to have options.

1/27 - In at Maine via Status Checker. Probably a withdraw, but we'll see what (if any) $$ they offer.

2/20 - Been almost a month since any movement, finally wait listed at Wisconsin.

3/8 - Finally got a CU letter - can you believe it, a Wait-List!! Talk about stringing it out! Oh well, will do my best to get off this thing reasonably soon, after all the Mrs. needs to start looking for a new job and we have to plan a move and it would be really helpful to know where! I'm visiting Richmond next week, we'll see what they have to offer.

3/15 - Back from my Richmond visit, loved the place and, maybe more importantly, the people. Will wait another week or see to see what the scholarship situation looks like, but I get the feeling this is going to be the one!

3/16 - Just got the scholarship e-mail, $10k / year, "satisfactory progress" stip (2.0, 2.1, 2.2). I'm sold!

3/23 - Wait-listed at W&M, surprised it wasn't a straight-up rejection. Still, will withdraw. Attended the DU ASD, informative and helpful, but with no $ there it's still a no-go. To their credit, nice building. Sent in Richmond deposit check yesterday and today helped me realize that was the correct choice!

4/19 - Cycle is officially over, got a rejection e-mail from New Mexico today. They probably figured that by now I was going somewhere else anyway, no hard feelings.

7/19 - Finally got my rejection letter from CU. They would have had to offer money on top of the in-state tuition, which was pretty assuredly not happening, in order for me to drop my Richmond plans. Looking forward to being a Spider and I wish the best to everyone in the class of 2015 at whichever school you chose!

Yeah, I will definitely be in touch with them as the cycle continues. Phone interview for sure, I doubt I can make it for a visit until it's too late (May).

Congrats on the acceptances! Your GPA makes you a very interesting data point on all the graphs. I stumbled here because I saw your green dot WAY down there at the bottom of Maryland's graph. For a second I thought to myself "this must be a football player" before I realized I wasn't staring at an undergrad graph. But seriously congrats on your cycle so far. Was your PS a really complicated write-up, given your undergraduate experience? How did you sort that out?

re:

Thanks for the congrats. My PS was actually not that complicated. It's obviously a long story and I had to do some serious editing to get it down to the few pertinent points I wanted to get across. I think I spent the bulk of the first page on the past (jumping from school to school, the GPA and a DUI) and the next page and a half on the present and future - the student I am today. A couple schools had a strict two-page or word limit and I took that out on the first part. So, to answer your question, the PS was not complicated, but the process of writing it and refining it was.
