Additional info & updates

Santa Clara University is my #1 choice. I got a low LSAT score (24th percentile), but the highest I scored on a practice test was 142 (untimed) and 136 (timed).

11/8/12 - "In Committee" at SCU. Looks like Early Decision paid off. It also helps when a family member calls the dean...
11/8/12 - Complete at USD and UOP.
11/16 - "In review" at UOP and complete at Golden Gate and USF. I haven't heard anything from California Western yet. Hopefully SCU gets back to me soon; I'm going crazy waiting for a decision.
11/21 - apparently my file is just NOW complete at SCU, even though I've been "in committee" for almost two weeks... My status updated today with "in committee" once again, just with the date change. I went nuts thinking I'd be getting a decision soon. I guess I have to keep waiting.
11/30 - I have to schedule an appointment with SCU Dean Polden about my application. Apparently, he wants to talk about my low LSAT score. Beyond nervous...
12/5 - Santa Clara was my #1, but I don't think I'm going to be admitted there. USF or GG are my preferred options now. Either that or take a year off. Both are appealing.
12/13 - Updated again for "in committee" at SCU. By 9 PM, I got a result: deferred to regular admissions. Not rejected (yet), but I'll find out in spring officially.
1/15/13 - I officially signed up for the February LSAT, and I informed all admissions departments, including Dean Polden of SCU, about my decision to retake the test. This time, I'm taking a TestMasters weekend course at the end of January to boost my score from a 144. I don't need much improvement, as a 150 (or a score around there) will get me admission to at least one of those schools. Here's to a crazy few weeks!
2/10 - Well, it's done. Now I just have to wait.
3/6 - I got a 150 on my second LSAT! Just enough to get me into SCU!!
3/8 - Complete at USF, "in review" at Cal Western. Things are moving quickly. Hopefully I'll know my destination soon.
3/14 - Complete at UOP. Waitlisted at USD. Never expected acceptance anyway; USD was a reach. Still a strong option if I get off the WL
3/15 - Files updated at USF and GG. Still nothing from SCU...yet.
3/20 - Accepted at California Western! My first acceptance of the cycle! A solid backup in case SCU doesn't work out. It's good to know that I got in to law school.
3/25 - In review at both UOP and Golden Gate. These next few weeks will be crazy.
4/4 - Waitlisted at USF. Still nothing from SCU, GG, or UOP
4/18 - Accepted at GG with $20k scholly offer. Must maintain a 3.0 GPA, and I've been placed in an honors program. This vaulted up to #3 for me
4/23 - Waitlisted at SCU. After months, this is how it ends. 95% chance I end up at Golden Gate. Unless SCU accepts me off the WL and offers me a decent scholarship, GG is my choice. UPDATE: I got in to UOP today as well. Let's see what they offer me.
4/27 - After days of deliberating between UOP and GG, I'm on the verge of committing to UOP. Taking a tour on 5/7 at which point I'll likely commit. Excited for this new opportunity!
5/2 - Sent in my seat deposit for McGeorge. I'm going to law school! So excited!

I looked at SCU's holiday calendar and they are closed all of next week. Boo. That means no status checking for a week? I might do it anyway, haha.

You're lucky. You got a response already. I'm going insane, checking every 10 minutes.

Similar numbers, same state... Good luck .. I'm guessing you want to stay in Santa Clara/ San Jose area?

Friday, November 02 2012 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, I'd prefer to stay here. It's close to home for me, as I live near Berkeley. I have family and friends here, and my family is legendary at SCU. What about you?

California

I'm in the same boat. I want to stay in Northern California (up here for school -- love it) Santa Clara U. is awesome, took a tour, would be a great place to get a J.D. from. Good luck!

Thanks! Good luck to you too!

That's really good that you get to talk to the Dean about your LSAT score, I think that's a great opportunity for you to show you are a hardworking student and have the ability to succeed. I took a year off last year and I was able to raise my LSAT score 6 points officially. So I went from having a rejection letter to having an acceptance. I remember feeling so disappointed last year, but it's just a different route to take in getting where you want to go, we'll all get there in the end :)

Friday, November 02 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! I haven't heard anything yet from either SCU or UOP. Hopefully something comes soon.

I'm retaking the LSAT in February. Hopefully, I can reach the 160 plateau.

GOOD LUCK ON LSAT

Good Luck on the LSAT, I am hoping for the best for you!! I think even with with a 154 or higher you would have good odds of getting into SCU with that GPA!

Friday, November 02 2012 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! I'm aiming for that 153/154 range. With the amount of people withdrawing, hopefully my chance of admission post-LSAT will go up!

LSAT comes in today..

It's for 1L. It's renewable every year contingent on a 3.0 GPA
