Extra Curricular Information

My softs are too weird to really apply to any future applicants, so I'm just going to write a couple things lessons might cycle might hold.

Non law-related WE/WE all over the place won't necessarily hurt you: I went from a research assistant to working in entertainment, and I never had a job where I had to come in 9-5 every day. Doing interesting things, even if I couldn't tie them into a coherent "why law school" narrative probably helped.

Yield protect still exists: UVA especially has changed tack a lot and started throwing money at applicants with great numbers instead of waitlisting them, but I was pretty clearly yield protected by them and Michigan (my numbers are above both of their 75ths).

Don't get depressed in December: In December it was pretty clear to me that HYS were out, probably with Columbia, and I was going to be picking between Chi, NYU and Penn, assuming Penn didn't YP me. Obviously it didn't work out that way. This process is crazy and no sense getting stressed by it until you have the final decisions.

Berkeley and Stanford are unpredictable: I could've gotten in after faculty review, but chances are I was a ding/WL at Berkeley while being accepted at Stanford. Don't try to guess what these two schools are going to do.

Don't go K-JD: Seriously kids, do something fun and interesting. Law school will always be there.

I'm incredibly shocked at how lucky I was and am so excited to be going off to Stanford. I hope this profile is at least a little helpful to future applicants. Feel free to PM me any application questions!

Additional info & updates

----------------------

9/18: Applied to Duke Priority Track. Cycle is go!

9/20: Duke app on hold for dean's letter. I'm going to wait until Columbia/NYU apps are done so I only have to ask my university once for the letters.

9/25: Finished up my apps that don't require significant additional essays (longer PS for Cal, SoP for NYU Furman app and Yale 250/Yale doesn't care about how early you apply). I wrote Why UM and Why UVA statements, we'll see if that saves me from the YP axe.

9/30: Stanford is requesting my graduate transcript, which, for personal reasons, is very difficult for me to obtain. Hopefully this doesn't hold up my app too much. Duke is still waiting to get my dean's letter, but that should be resolved any day now.

10/10: HLS goes complete. Still having issues with Duke and Stanford, but hopefully both will be complete soon.

10/15: Finally UR at Duke.

10/18: Duke requests a dean's letter from my other UG (I transferred). The process is a little complicated, so I'm going to wait on my other applications before deciding whether to answer Duke's request. Sad my PT app had to end up like this lol.

11/28: Chicago interview invite! Best news so far this cycle.

12/10: NYU changed to "Decision Letter Sent," which, according to conventional wisdom, means an acceptance!

12/11: Can log into NYU ASW.

12/14: In at Penn! Got the call while washing dishes at work, lol.

12/20: Levy invite. Trying not to get too excited, Levy would be a dream come true.

1/3: JS1!!!!

1/17: Stanford. It's incredible to achieve something you've worked for five years to achieve. My cycle is more or less complete.

1/22: JS2! Stanford and Harvard, this cycle has become an absolute dream for me. And to think I was freaking out in December when I hadn't heard from M, V or B. Just goes to show there's no point in panicking until you hear the final word from every school.

1/23: In at Chicago via email. What a week.

1/24: Finally got around to finishing my Yale app. No more apps ever!

3/7: Chicago merit scholarship offer.

4/16: Rejected by Yale via email. I will be depositing at SLS.

Little work/Lot of Waiting

Looks like you're almost all set with your apps. I never wished you luck. I suspect you don't need much and will do very well. I anticipate chewing off at least four of my fingers over the next couple months of waiting. Anyways. All the best.

Seems like forever ago we read each other's personal statements. So far my cycle has exceeded expectations and it looks like yours has been pretty damn impressive. Can't say I'm that surprised :) Congrats!

I remember back in the day when you commented on my profile that you looked at LSN every day and cried. I'm sure it's much the same now, only with tears of joy. Congrats on your wild success this cycle!
