Additional info & updates

Now that my cycle is over, I want to share some of the strategies that I used in hopes that they will help a future law student one day.

As you can see I did not do very well on the LSAT. I have never been very good at standardized tests and this was no different. I took the test only once and decided to go with it.

Since my LSAT was so low, I tried all that I could to put myself on the same playing field as some one with a higher score.

1) I sent in my apps very early. Most of them were out the week before/of Thanksgiving.

2) I wrote an addendum for my LSAT for every school. I feel that even though my LSAT is not the highest, I will still succeed in law school, and I expressed that in the addendum.

3) I worked on my PS for about a year with multiple reviews and rewrites.

4) I wrote a "Why X School" for each school. I made sure to do my research on each school and add in specifics. It was very time consuming, but I believe it made a difference.

5) I played my strengths! My GPA has always been pretty high and I have always tried to do extracurriculars and internships. I was also a Division I athlete for 4 years in college. I did honors, wrote a senior thesis, and had 2 legal internships. I highlighted this as much as possible so the admission would see me as a well rounded student with a lot to offer, despite my LSAT score.

6) I did not see my LORs but I am pretty sure they were really good. I made a very strong connection with one of my professors who I know supported me very much. I also made a lot of connections with administrators in the athletic department.

7) Lastly, Cast a WIDE net! I applied to 36 schools, yes it is a lot, but most of them were fee waivers. I know it may seem excessive but when you are a splitter like me, you never know how the schools will view your app.

I hope this profile will help those of you who feel that your LSAT score is not good enough to get into some of the top ranked schools. I didn't get into Stanford or Yale, but I did get a lot of acceptances from schools I never expected to even hear back from. According to my score I should not have gotten into a lot of these schools but not only did I get in, I received a lot of scholarship offers also. Do not give up only if you have a low LSAT, just do the best you can to show that the score does not fully represent you.

I am extremely happy with my decision to go to IU Bloomington. I visited a lot of schools and this process has been one crazy journey! When it came down to a decision, I thought about money, the schools statistics, and the best fit for me. It came down to UCI, Wisconsin, and IU. I ended up receiving a full tuition scholarship to IU and when I visited, I loved it!

Best of Luck to everyone! :)

Awesome cycle so far. It looks like you will have more than a few options to consider. GL with the remaining schools.

Well done on your admits! You have landed some nice choices so far! Has no one given you any financial aid/scholarship info yet, or are you just not posting?

Thanks @oysterchamp !! :) good luck to you also! @ BruinFZ1guy I hav received scholarship offers from every school except Marquette, American, U of Arizona, and U of Maryland. I am getting a lot of questions about my offers so I will try to post them ASAP!

Congrats!! Your cycle has surely been blessed! What's your top choice? I'm praying that AL will accept me! Did they offer you money?

Oh yea, one other question.. did your status checker go straight from under review to admitted or did you go through the Pending Final Committee Decision at Alabama? It seems that several ofus are stuck there but unsure of what to take from taht status lol

@FaithnGod Thank you so much! I am very happy with how my cycle has gone so far. I don't have a top choice right now. I plan on visiting a lot of the schools and making a decision after. I got a phone call from Alabama this morning. I was so excited. Thats a great school and I have family out there so thats a really good option for me. They haven't offered my any money yet but I was informed that scholarship info will come via snail mail in about 3 weeks. Good luck with the rest of your cycle...fingers crossed that we'll be classmates in the fall at Alabama! :)

@FaithnGod this morning I checked it and it said "under review". A few hours after the phone call this morning it said "Admitted".

Wow! You have had an amazing cycle so far! Congrats on all of the schools you got into. SO many choices. (I thought I applied to a lot. lol Man, Your profile makes me regret not applying to more!)

No problem! You deserve a ton of props! Mad jelly at University of Arizona. (That's how I stumbled onto your profile.) But, yes GOOD luck with your decision and let me know what you decide. Irvine and Nevada look like arm pullers with that kinda dough! lol I am crossing my fingers for AZ law. From what I've heard they plan on reviewing all of the ED files again, so I'm hoping for good news. And, I haven't heard back from UCLA...I have a 146, but I can dream right? lol

How'd U of Arizona notify you of their decision?? Email or snail mail??

@LadyJL I appreciate the info. Also, congrats on your successful cycle!

Thank you soooo much

Ladyjl, I really appreciate your insight and advice, duly noted. All your strategies sound good and it makes perfect sense to appeal to other aspects of the application process. My Udgpa sucks and so I'm hoping that they will consider my graduate GPA. I haven't taken the LSAT yet and im having some issues :/ I'm going to copy down exactly what you did and do the same. It's like marketing yourself on other great qualities. Congrats on your acceptances and most of all your full scholarship!!! Thank you so much for paying it forward :)

I left you an inbox. Also, can you please advise me as to what you said or higlighted in particular in the addendums. Thanks.

LadyJL, Thank you so much for sharing your story! Your cycle helped me keep my head in the game. I got a call from AZ law today, my #1 school and was removed from the waitlist. I completely agree that even if you have a low LSAT score, you can still get into some amazing schools! Glad to see you chose IU! Good luck!

Thanks for the congrats! I'm pretty excited about UA, plus the $ offer was killer! Looks like you and I are in the same boat with ASU. They are slow as snails.
