Hi. I applied in early September and heard back in mid October. I just heard from St. Thomas and it looks like I'll be getting close to a full ride there so it changes the dynamic a bit. I think I'll still go to UM even if I don't get any scholly $$ but I am trying to use the award from St. Thomas as leverage. Best of luck to you!
Looks like no scholly $$ from UM. I don't ever want to leave South Florida so UM is definitely my top choice but without any scholly money, I may have to defer a year and work to save up $15k-$25k. St. Thomas is struggling so much just to place students in law related jobs I don't think I'd attend unless they paid me to and their scholarship stipulations are pretty ridiculous. FIU is just not happening even though I got in.
Why no FIU?? Under FSU/UF, that's my next in line.
I really didn't like what FIU had to offer when I visited the campus. Just wasn't feeling the faculty and students. I really want to stay in South Florida so I'm not really eyeing FSU or UF. UM is my top choice but if St. Thomas drops the stipulations on the near full ride, I will have to seriously consider St. Thomas
Mercer has emerged as a top 3 choice for me but it will all depend on the type of scholarship I get
I took a trip to Mercer Law last weekend and was quite impressed with what they had to offer. However, because I want to stay in South Florida, University of Miami School of Law will be my school. Seat deposit will be paid this week!
I realized last minute that Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center is the right fit for me. I'll be getting a quality education at a steep discount thanks to my scholarship award and the fact that I can commute from home! The alumni base in the area I want to work is pretty strong so I plan to take advantage of that. Had the University of Miami School of Law offered some type of award, perhaps I would have reconsidered but I paid my seat deposit at NSU and I'm looking forward to starting in August!
what did you like about Nova?
Mainly the fact that their employment numbers are right up there with Miami's. The fact that it's not going to cost me too much compared to Miami and I can stay home and only focus on school and not have to worry about bills, cooking, cleaning, etc also played a huge role. I live and plan to work in 2 counties north of Miami and Nova has a very strong reputation in that area as it is the 'local' school. I currently work at a firm full of Nova grads and have attended a few Nova alumni networking events with a few of those attorneys and it seems like a pretty good fit for what . I'm trying to do. Had I not been interested in staying local I probably would have jumped at Miami
In via phone call yesterday at FSU. I get instate tuition but Nova is still half the price. However, I may take a trip up to Tallahassee to visit just in case but I feel that Nova is the better option here.
Congrats on your acceptances. My dream schools are FIU and Nova (mainly bc of the part time program and the fact I live on my own with no help from parents). Lately based on the research i've done, Nova seems to be a really good fit. Unfortunately my first 2 years of Undergrad really sucked for me. I did better my last 2 years. That GPA calculation really hit me hard on the LSAC... 2.6.. plus a bad score from the LSAT. I'm praying I will be an exception. Otherwise I will have to take the pesky LSAT in December. Good luck in law school and congrats :)
You might have to go through Nova's AAMPLE program which is basically a two class summer semester that you must pass to be admitted into the JD program for students below the medians. If not, I'd retake the lsat. A 2.6 is really going to hurt your chances. Good luck and thanks!
Hello! We have very similar stats & I was just curious what the timeline of your application was for U. Miami Thanks! :)
