Extra Curricular Information

Worked 40 hours per week during undergrad, am married with two kids, USMC veteran. Only applying to schools I feel are in areas it would be great to raise a family, offer a high quality of life, and will afford decent to spectacular employment opportunities, all while keeping debt to a minimum.

Additional info & updates

Both GPA's are my approximations. The school I attended uses a numerical grading system that, for some reason, LSDAS cannot interpret. My UGPA was a 90.250 (out of 100) and my major GPA is 100 (out of 100). I am not a state resident for any of the public schools I applied to.

26 Nov 2010: In at UALR via status checker. Excited about this as it is my first admit and much earlier than expected. Little Rock is a great town and tuition is a bargain. I am crossing my fingers that I will be offered some sort of scholarship.

03 Dec 2010: Received an email from MSU stating my file was reviewed by the Admissions and Scholarship Committee and I am "very competitive." They asked I send in a "Why Michigan State" statement so that they may re-evaluate my application before making a decision. I wonder if this means they are going to accept me and need a statement to determine the appropriate scholarship amount, or if it means I'm teetering on being admitted/rejected. Either way, it's not a rejection, so that's good!

09 Dec 2010: Dinged at W&L via status checker. Completely expected. Applied due to free application.

10 Dec 2010: Dinged at Chicago-Kent via status checker. Somewhat surprised by this. I guess the whole "not reportable" GPA is a lot more of a detriment than I expected.

13 Dec 2010: In at MSU via status checker. Status checker says "Admitted with Scholarship," but no mention of how much. I really hope it's a full scholarship, but from what I've read about everyone else that got a full scholarship, they were called and I was not. Free money is free money, though!!!

14 Dec 2010: In review at Arizona, Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois. Also, missed a phone call today from MSU. I called back, but was told the only person that had my scholarship information available was in a meeting, so I'd have to wait until tomorrow to hear from him.

17 Dec 2010: Dinged at UIUC via status checker then email.

03 Jan 2011: Dinged by Hamline via email. Completely surprised by this, but don't really care. I only applied because it was free and I was already applying to two schools in the Twin Cities. I really don't understand it, though.

18 Jan 2011: WL'd at William Mitchell. Surprised by this. I guess the Minneapolis/St. Paul area hates me. :-)

24 Jan 2011: In at St. Thomas via status checker. I guess the Twin Cities don't hate me, after all.

My email from Michigan State said that I "likely qualified for a full tuition scholarship" and to submit a supplemental essay. I sent it to them a couple of days later and then was accepted with the full ride. Good Luck!

Sorry to hear about W&L but the MSU is more than likely great news. The same happened to me last application cycle and after submitting the requested documentation I got in with a scholarship. Good luck!

William Mitchell should be bending over backwards to get you to their school with your numbers. Why the waitlist?

I can't believe you got denied by DU with your scores!!? I guess I'll have to start accepting my own inevitable denial. I've been out of undergrad four years, seems like they hold us to a higher standard instead of a lower standard. So frustrating. Good luck. coloradygrl

Hi there...just wondering how you found out you were rejected from AZ. I see I have a Decision Rendered on mine, nothing about being accepted or rejected. So, I'm assuming I'll be getting a rejection in the mail. I just wondered if yours gave your status online. Thanks.
