I volunteer with a community organization and serve on the board of a foundation my parents and I started.

Additional info & updates

03/06/2009 Visited Tulane on their admitted students day and was very impressed. The day was very organized and the students themselves seemed enthusiastic about the school. Turns out most of their graduates leave Louisiana, which I was relieved to hear. Tulane made a much better case for itself than I expected.

03/03/2009 No mail from law schools for almost a month! Still waiting on Emory, Boston U and Boston College, and Notre Dame. Recent news have not been good: waitlist at University of Illinois and a ding at Duke. Oh, well. I decided not to get on the Fordham waitlist: it would be too expensive to live in NYC and pay full price for law school.

03/01/2009 American is willing to give me a $10,00 one-time "signing bonus," but I have to decide by April 1st. It's better than nothing.

02/12/09 No mail at all this week! I'm going super-crazy and becoming totally obsessed with checking the mailbox, nearly stalking the mail person!

02/05/09 Rejected at Northwestern via email to check my status on their website. Booooooo.

02/04/09 Got a tote from Tulane and a Dean's Merit Scholarship offer of $30,000 provided I keep a 3.0. I'm definitely going to visit in March!

02/02/09 Waitlisted at GW via envelope with a reply card. Very disappointed, but will do all I can to get off that wait list. Hopefully a lot of people will withdraw later and leave room for me.

01/31/09 In at Georgia State, got a thick letter in the mail. They included information about a scholarship the deadline for which has already passed. Just another reason not to go there - bureaucratic efficiency.

01/30/09 In at Tulane via email! With their emphasis on civil law, they're a serious contender. Scholarship information is in the mail, so we'll see what they have to offer. I'll definitely go and visit, though.

01/22/09 Got home to a priority envelope from American. International law, here I come. Also a scholarship offer from UGA for 9000 for all three years off my in-state tuition as long as I keep a 2.7 minimum. Not bad, but if I had to choose right now, I'd take American for it's int'l law program.
01/20/09 Rejected at University of Minnesota. Hmmm...

01/07/09 In at Georgia! My first acceptance and it feels so good! 01/17/09 The assistant dean of admissions called about a scholarship but I couldn't answer. Must call her back soon.

01/05/09Applied to BU, BC, Michigan. Still working on Notre Dame, William & Mary, etc.

Retook the LSAT 12/06/08, thought I did better, whaddayaknow, not at all. one point lower. Geez!

11/28/08 Sent in Cornell - now I have to work on that certification letter!
11/25/08 Sent in Harvard, Emory, Duke, and GSU!

11/24/08 Complete at GW
11/20/08 American app is sent!

11/10/08 Sent in apps to GW, Tulane, and Berkeley. Still waiting on my transcript to come in, as well as my LORs. Something tells me I'll be waiting into December. Decided not to go ED to GW - too much pressure. It was nice not paying those application fees. Now the waiting begins. It'll never end.

11/04/08 - Got a fee waiver from LSAC.

I wondering, though, if my softs will pull my score up for the top 20 schools.

I wish you all the best in your cycle. Btw, I am all into Russian literature. I even took a Russian language class as an UG. But my Russian is laughable and whatever it was that I learned (I got an A in the class, though) is getting rusty these days. Keep us posted how your cycle goes. I am sure you will break into a T25 easily. Probably even T10.

URM status?
Saturday, October 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

Well, I guess if you're a citizen here or a permanent resident and also not Caucasian then you are clearly an URM - which means that with your score you stand a pretty good shot at a T14 school. On the other hand, if you identify yourself as Caucasian then I am not so sure that you will be an URM, even if English isn't your first language. However, English not being your native tongue certainly is important, I think, to the adcomms. You can play the diversity card and see what happens. I am doing the same. HTH. Best wishes.

Best of luck on Cornell. I hope we both get in :) I see you have a lot of fee waivers. If you don't mind answering, did you get 'em through the CRS or do you have a LSAC fee-waiver (or, did you apply for/ask for a fee waiver directly to/from the school)?

for answering my question,

dang, LSN does not accept Cyrillic. Anyway, I said: Spasiba!

LOR's
Saturday, October 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

I did the same - only 1 LOR was in when I sent in the apps, although everything else were already processed. That said, the rest of my (2 more) LOR's are now in and have been forwarded to the LS's as per my assignment. So, I don't think there's any disadvantage to sending in the apps before the LOR's are in. However, it may matter in places like Fordham that have 0 LOR requirements - mine was complete and under review there with just 1 LOR, even though I wanted them to look at at least one other LOR [but now the other LOR has been forwarded as well, although I don't know if Fordham will bother to look over it].

on American!

Monday, October 27 2008 at 08:00 PM

I have a friend at American, Law, and she likes it a lot. int'l law too, I think. she did an MA in IR before going. thanks for the congrats! I'm looking at Michigan now, though. I don't like Cornell much -- might be because of my UG bias (inter-Ivy rivalry)

congrats

Not really lol, maybe if it came from UGA.
