Extra Curricular Information

Lots of UG leadership stuff. Finance work experience. Wrote strong Why NU, M, Cornell and P. Also wrote average to weak Why GULC, D and V.

*SP for Northwestern means that I was ED put on hold (since they didn't want to give me the $150k scholarship--understandably so) and then accepted me in January. I don't think "Deferred" is the right option since I think that means you've accepted the offer and decided to wait a year to attend.

**All dates are fudged a bit... an attempt at anonymity. I will do my best to update real decisions on the exact dates they are rendered. Scholarship amounts are for all 3 years.

Additional info & updates

2/2 -- Email from WUSTL: admitted and being considered for "Scholars in Law Award". Barring a big surprise at the end of the season, I think it's pretty much /cycle. Off to ASWs next month. Withdrew from Duke today... don't see myself attending over M/P/NU. (Planning on withdrawing from schools in April if I don't get scholarship offers.) Will update this log one more time with my final decision.

1/13 -- Today was a pretty busy day. Within an hour of getting the call from UPenn, I got a congratulations email from Northwestern!!! NU has been my top choice for years now... I'm incredibly happy and feel pretty lucky to have been admitted with my lowish GPA and median LSAT. Also dinged by UChicago via email today. It was expected so it didn't sting too badly. I'm pretty excited for a tough decision ahead of me. Will be (unexpectedly) booking my flight to Philly asap.
I feel extremely blessed considering I'm at both NU and UPenn's LSAT median and close to or below their 25th %tile GPAs so I'm unlikely to help either one of them with their numbers. The drop in LSAT takers must have played a role and/or they really liked my fairly unconventional PS. Good luck to everyone else waiting!

1/9 -- Dinged at Cal. I don't even remember sending in an app (they weren't added to this profile until today). Obviously, I'm not too worried about it.

1/6 -- Waitlisted at GULC today. Withdrawn since I don't see myself attending if they pulled me off their waitlist (not a fan of DC and politics/government doesn't appeal to me).

12/20 -- That awkward moment when you get an admit email after withdrawing your app a month ago. Will email IU-B again, I guess.

12/16 -- Held at NU releasing me from the ED contract. Since I didn't get any $$ from Michigan, NU is still my #1 so I'll definitely write a LOCI. Also deferred to regular admissions pool at Cornell... this one really stings because they are one of my top choices. :/

12/13 -- In @ BC via email!! This was really unexpected because I thought I made some egregious errors on my essays (which I emailed them later to correct). I was expecting WL/Reject for sure. I love that you love me even though I'm not perfect, BC. :D!

12/05 -- Call from BU. I didn't think my cycle would look anything like this. Beyond excited for a tough decision ahead of me.

11/27 -- Got the call from 'Bama last week. I've heard that my offer should be negotiable to a full ride so I think I'm going to visit. I also decided that with UMich's acceptance, I'm going to withdraw from a couple safeties so I don't take anyone's seat.

11/18 -- In at Vanderbilt via black box in the mail! (One of my top choices.) Pretty spiffy. 4 for 4!!

11/16 -- In at Michigan! CAN. NOT. BELIEVE. IT. Also had my Georgetown interview today. I felt like it went extremely well. :D!

11/10 -- W&L acceptance today. They sent us an email earlier this week to tell us they were releasing decisions today and then sent an email today to tell us to check within the hour. I thought it was really nice compared to the lack of communication from most law schools. 2 for 2 so far, woooo!

11/7 -- Last Friday, LSAC posted the number of people taking the LSAT for the Oct 2011 sitting and there was a huge decrease (16.9% - http://www.lsac.org/LSACResources/Data/lsats-administered.asp with roughly 200 fewer 170-180ers). Hopefully this will mean that some top schools will be a bit less competitive during this cycle!

11/2 -- First acceptance via status checker. William and Mary, :D! It feels so good to know that I'm definitely going to law school next year. Hopefully there will be more good news to come.

10/12 -- Flew to a couple of schools and interviewed at the ones that allowed me to. It was pretty interesting to see how every law school has its own personality.

9/21 -- Yesterday, Northwestern announced that all admitted ED applicants will be getting full rides this year. I highly doubt my numbers are competitive enough for that. Looks like that ED won't help me after all. Bummer.

9/15 -- Most of my apps are submitted. Waiting on a couple fee waivers/working on a couple why x essays.

9/12 -- Submitted a couple apps last week. Took UIllinois off my list because of news of unethical behavior by their administration over the weekend & history of other unethical behavior.

8/5 -- Received a few fee waivers throughout the summer. Unfortunately, they were mostly from schools I do not intend to apply to. I've updated this profile with the ones from schools which I will be applying to.

Yeah - I would be screwed without those waivers! I know I'm super lucky to have them. Good luck to you - you should be fine with that 3.5. I bet at least 3 of the Top 14 will bite.

Likewise!

Thanks for the wishes! If you're ED'ing to NW, I think you'll have a very short cycle! Good LSAT and especially GPA, looks like you're golden!

Thank you!

That's quite the extensive list you've got there. I hope NW makes it all irrelevant! Good luck!

how did you know your admission chances?

blackpride, are you talking about the percentages in my extracurricular section? I got those off of law school predictor (http://www.lawschoolpredictor.com/wp-content/uploads/Law-School-Predictor-Full-Time-Programs.htm). It uses past numbers from this website to give you a rough estimate of your chances. Good luck with your cycle!

Congrats!!!

Congrats on the first acceptance!

Good luck!

Congrats on William & Mary! I hope it's the first of many positive decisions over the coming weeks and months.

Hey!

Just wanted to say good luck on your cycle, numbers twin! I hope you get your full ride to Northwestern!

NYU no ED
Tuesday, August 02 2011 at 08:00 PM

Ugh...I really really wanted to. But I didn't want to be in a position where my family needed me and I was obligated to stay in NY. I applied to every school except for Texas before Halloween so hopefully that will help me. It's such BS being a splitter am I right?

Good luck

Similar numbers and similar schools, good luck, I'll be following!

Thanks!

And congratulations to you as well! I'm so excited :)

Nice!

good job with Michigan! i have a similar LSAT score and Michigan's also a top choice for me. what do you think put you over the top despite LSP's pessimism?

re re mich
Wednesday, November 16 2011 at 07:00 PM

that's good advice! I wrote two of the optional essays (why michigan and the one about my career path); also didn't get a chance to visit the campus or attend any of their events, but I talked about specific programs they had and why they fit into my goals; hopefully that convinces them

Congrats!
Tuesday, September 06 2011 at 08:00 PM

Checking in!! Congrats on your UMich acceptance!! At this point, is Northwestern still your #1?

Thanks!
Saturday, June 18 2011 at 08:00 PM

You're having a stellar cycle yourself - I hope it keeps up for you!

Friday, February 18 2011 at 07:00 PM

just wondering why exactly did you call yourself a splitter?

Thursday, August 11 2011 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on BU!!! Just saw that it happened today, so sorry that it's so late :P

Splitter ID
Tuesday, August 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

I don't think you're a splitter by any stretch of the imagination. You're clearly a solid college student and awesome at taking tests, which is a boon for law school admits. I was checking you out just for fun because of the Splitter ID but then I was like "dude has a 3.5." Essentially, you are a law school dream candidate. Enjoy your cycle because you'll be getting in LOTS of places Mr. Non-splitter. :)

No worries about the ID. I had just finished sending in some major apps on my end (schools that had my particular career track) and came on here to stalk people. :) As far as the articles, I think it's good to keep things in perspective and to know that just because one gains access to X name-brand school doesn't guarantee X name-brand success. It's still important to keep cost, location, end goal and so on part of the decision mix. I don't expect the legal market to bottom out for another 5+ years so, that's my thought process with it all, regardless of where anyone goes. And Happy Holidays/Merry early Christmas yourself! :)

^^^ That was me, not some completely random creeper. I should probably stop posting from work.

Saturday, June 18 2011 at 08:00 PM

Forsake NU! Nah, you definitely have some tough decisions ahead of you and your cycle isn't even over. As for H, who knows why they held me. My softs are very average, but with my PS my app does tell an interesting story (IMO). It's more likely that they're hardcore trolling me, tough!

And I'm Pretty Good

At making paper planes! Congrats on the acceptances so far!

Yay!!
Monday, October 05 2009 at 08:00 PM

I just saw your comment. : ) Also, come to NU!

Me too
Monday, October 31 2011 at 08:00 PM

Hi there - I'm also a splitter; also deciding between NU and Penn. Will be very curious about your impressions given that I probably can't visit.

Nice!
Monday, November 14 2011 at 07:00 PM

Awesome results! Tough choice to make

Road trips
Tuesday, August 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'll also be heading to CA next week as of now. Oh road trips. With parents. Too fun for words. :) I've still got 10 schools to hear back from (all major) so not set on any place totally until they're all no's. Where are you leaning towards right now? Avoid the TLS bash session with the rankings going on right now. :) Told ya you weren't a splitter - haha
