Additional info & updates

(8.31.2010)

Decided to apply in next year's cycle for a school start date of Fall 2012 so I will be retaking the LSAT in July or October of next year. Already have confirmation from my LOR writers and going to start working on my PS and DS. Also trying to figure out if I should take an engineering job for this year before LS or go to something like finance/consulting/management. Let me know if you guys have any input.

Also pretty sure I have my final application list set. Good luck to everyone who is going to be in this cycle.

(5.19.2010)

Added Penn and Northwestern to the list after some careful thought. Worth a shot. Thinking about adding Duke and UVA since they place very well in Texas.

(4.26.2010)

Probably going to be leaving LSN for a while since I'm not applying next cycle. Good luck to everyone still waiting on this cycle and for those applying next cycle. Feel free to PM me!

(4.19.2010)

Took University of Virginia off the list because really who was I kidding, I wasn't going to freaking Virgina.

(4.17.2010)

Today I decided that UT-Austin will be my "dream" school for all intents and purposes. Its the dominant force in the Texas legal market, offers a wonderful COL and is close enough to home and my resources for me to be mentally successful. Hopefully I will be accepted and get some scholarship money. I go to school in the Texas A&M System but "HOOK 'EM DAMMIT"! lol I love saying that.

(4.9.2010)

OK final list of 15 schools done. I have a few safeties, a few that I have a good chance at and a few reaches. Going to take an LSAT prep course this summer and maybe a prep course this fall at my UG and retake the LSAT in October. Starting PS now and already have LOR writers. Hoping to get 1 more from my boss this summer though. We shall see.

I was asked to explain why I took some schools off the list:

University of California - Berkeley - not that interested in California and they are really big on GPA.

Cornell University - 3 years in Ithaca? Negative.

Baylor - HA! What was I thinking?

Tulane - I just don't think that would be a good decision.

Wake Forest - nope.

Howard University - Not interested in going to another HBCU, not interested in D.C. and if I am gonna go to a HBCU safety school TSU will suffice.

Georgetown - don't particularly like D.C. and degree mill reputation didnt' help

Franklin Pierce - very good in IP law plus they have a program where graduation with a 3.0 or so gives automatic acceptance to the Vermont Bar BUT what am i really going to do in flippin Vermont?

I like your persona but I love your chances at HLS. Get even a 172 on that retake and you're IN, no question. Looking forward to possibly meeting you at the ASW next cycle.

You know...

you are not obligated to update your LSAC GPA with recent transcripts, right? So if you didn't have a stellar GPA this past semester, schools need not be informed, unless they specifically request updated grades. So...don't send them in. As long as your GPA doesn't go from a 3.3 to like a <3.1, you should be fine. You only ever really need to send in just one accurate transcript for each institution you attended to LSAC. Most people only send it in if it helps increase their GPA, if not, don't.

I know that you will be at HLS next year. Just let me know when you need a place to stay. You know I've got your back girl!!

hey, for what it's worth, UC Berkeley and Northwestern claim to prefer students with at least a year work experience out of undergrad...thank you for the kind words, you're going to do stupendous ;) i'm applying to cornell, that's my only reach school. have you considered columbia? keep in touch, okay? :)

What kind of engineering are you? I'm looking into HLS but am concerned abut my GPA (3.13 currently, with 1 year left). Haven't taken the LSAT yet, and I know that's a huge factor, but I've been trying to do research on probability of getting into schools, HLS especially...I'm hoping my electrical engineering degree along with my intern/work experience and extra-curriculars will help me stand out despite my GPA so I've been trying to compare with other engineers applying to law schools...(not a minority besides being a female engineer)

Hey, I am a double major in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I think you're going to need a very high LSAT to slide into Harvard with that GPA. What kind of internships did you do?
