Additional info & updates

For posterity, I called Mercer to see if they were going to take anyone off the wait list. Susan said not until the very last minute - possibly after the first of August. That is so horrible. She said if people on the wait list REALLY wanted to attend there (at full price, I might add), they would be more than happy to change plans at the last minute.

Dirty......

6-20
Decision made! UArk for me. Rented an apartment, finalized the aid, even started giving out my new email address.

MY CYCLE IS OVER!!!!

6-01
Rejected at Alabama... Received nice handwritten note from Louisville about my personal statement and admission, etc. No scholly info... No scholly, no go! Still waiting on Chicago Kent and Tennessee, Knoxville... then the cycle is officially OVER!

5-18
Rejected at FSU with invitation to apply again next year.

5-13
Brandeis = accepted. Financial scholarship info to follow with a formal letter. Hope it comes soon. For the right number I would change!
Barry emailed and wants to know why I withdrew.
Phoenix emailed with a scholarship offer. Not going to apply.

5-11
Withdrew over the weekend from Samford. Cannot commit without financial information and they don't give that out until after seat deposits are done. Withdrew from NIU and got a call the same day asking me to reconsider and offering more money.
Call from Brandeis this afternoon- they are "considering" admitting me and want to know if I am still interested in attending. That all depends on the money, of course. I will call back this afternoon when I have a break.
Still thinking Arkansas is where I will be.

5-4
Suffolk equals WL. Withdrew. Guess things crossed in the mail.
Sent first seat reservation fee to UArk-F, Still wondering about F/Aid to Samford... seat deposit due and I am not sure what to do on this one.
And what in the world happened to Kent, FSU, UTK??? Decisions, please????

5-1
Brandeis gave me the hold letter... they will decide in a couple weeks. I listed it here as "waitlisted", but it was really a "hold" letter to see if I have already gone elsewhere. Not sure if I will just withdraw or wait them out.

4-29
Accepted at U. of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Wow. With their new tier rating from USNWR, this changes everything. The value for the money is immense! With a 5K scholly, that means half of the tuition is paid for the first year.
Withdrew from a handful of schools I know I will never attend.
NIU advises no money other than in-state tuition adjustment. Hmmm. I did not see that one coming.

4-25
Calling GSU seems to have had the affect of making them act... unfortunately they acted the "wrong" way! Rejected. I noticed that a lot of people with numbers better than mine were rejected also, so it is not a surprise. It was my last chance for staying in Georgia. At least now I know I am moving.

4-24
IN at Samford/Cumberland! Yeah!!! That was nice, since my old boss at the law firm went there... maybe I will send him a copy of the acceptance... Waiting on $$$$$$
Today is my deadline for Washburn, so I will send the withdraw letter. Kansas is just too far from home.

4-23
BIG package with CD, Brochures, and award letter from Fl. Coastal. Have 30 days from date of letter to send seat deposit.

4-22
Spoke to Betty at Mercer about waitlist. They will not check their numbers again until June at the earliest. I asked about past years and the waitlist. She said in the past three years, one of those they never pulled from the wait list, one they pulled almost all waitlisters, and the last year, they took 8 or so. Her advice to all waitlisters... put seat deposits down elsewhere.

4-21
Called GSU asking for information on the long wait. Answering machine! No return call, of course.
Spoke to NIU admissions rep and had an excellent chat. No news on $$$ but they have a nice program where you are in-state so long as a parent lives in-state. Hurrah, Dad! In-state tuition made THAT pot much sweeter!

4-14
Phone call today from the admissions office at Northern Illinois University School of Law. Admitted. That is so wonderful because I love Chicago and that is where I am from!! Another choice to make?? I can hardly stand this process...

4-12
Florida Coastal sent me an email that I was waitlisted. I wrote back a bit edgy - they solicited ME... There was some brief discussion about a past arrest, then about my age, then about my race and how I figured the last two were the real issues. Wow. Now I am accepted? Hmmm. 15K scholarship renewable every year.

Just checked online status checkers- Illinois rejected me. Sniff sniff. Not a shocker... but would have been nice.

4-10
A nice letter today from Washburn. Scholarship is 7500 for the first year only. That is a tough one... I am out of state!!!

4-8
Received an answer to the email I sent to Emory over a month and a half ago. They want their application fee and the certification letter asap to consider my application. I know they are going to reject me- I see the numbers on this site, and many better than me have been felled! Do I really want to pay for a let down???

4-3
Big package from Florida Coastal today. I was sure it would be an acceptance.... nope. It was another view book (I can add this one to my increasing collection) and a letter from the Dir. of Adm. telling me to "keep pursuing my application process at Florida Coastal".

Also wrote a note to Arkansas-Fayetteville because I applied for non-index admission and have not gotten a confirmation from them that they received the materials.

4-2
Received a nice phone call from Washburn that I have been accepted. I really like the advocacy program there but Topeka??? That is a long way from Atlanta! Still, I suppose I will take a trip there to check it out.

4-1
Contacted Florida Coastal Again because they are taking a long time to decide on an application they requested. Adm. Dir. says it is in the fitness review and should be moving along soon.

3-27
Well... today was an inexplicable one... my alma mater sent me a notice that I could "apply" to be included on the wait list... huh? It was not even a reach! I had LOR's from everyone at that school... professors.... the Director of the PhD program..... and even the Dean of my program. A 4.0 UPGA... What in the world???
Of course, the online status checker says it is in review.... hmmm.

3-25
Rejection letter from UGA. Not a shocker, but with instate tuition, would have been nice. Oh, well!

3-8
Received an email out of the blue from Fl Coastal... offered 15K in scholarship money. Interesting thought... not sure I want to be in FL, though. Still, I applied.

2-28
U of Ark sent me a note telling me my index was a 202... because I am out of state, that is 3 points too low for admission... but I am welcome to reapply and see if I get admitted on a second glance once the index-worthy take slots they will use first.

Good luck to you as well. It felt good to get the first acceptance. Hopefully I will get more good news soon.

I too have been recently accepted to FCSL with a scholarship. How long did it take from the time you received your "contratulations" email to receive the official acceptance and scholarship information in the mail?

Hi! Congrats on your NIU acceptance! My scholarship is for full tuition for the three years as long as I maintain a 3.0. I sent in a letter requesting consideration for scholarships--you can find the information on their website, but basically I called and asked about it too and I think that's how I got it, so I would definitely recommend calling and sending in that letter! Good luck and I hope you get some $$!!

They sent me an email on 5/18/09. "Congratulations! You have been accepted to the Mercer University School of Law......blah, blah, blah........A seat deposit will be due by June 1, 2009 to reserve your place in the entering 2009 first year class." I really don't even know how or why I got off of the WL for Mercer. I never even sent them a LOCI. In fact, the only reason I even applied was because they sent me a app. fee waiver by email asking me to apply. You might want to call them again, because either the person you spoke to was deceiving you, or doesn't know what is going on. Either way, if you ask me, I don't think you should be concerned with Mercer. Their graduates apparently have a much tougher time securing immediate employment, from alumni I have talked to. When you factor that with their high tuition, I just don't see the value. Emory, UGA, and GSU grads are all going to get in-state jobs first. Unless you are just completely opposed to moving that far away from ATL, I think you are better served going to UofL and to a lesser degree Ark. I honestly think Louisville is your best option. Its only school in the top 100, and its graduates have great opportunities within the city, and surrounding areas like Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Lexington, etc. Plus, tuition is fairly low. Also, Louisville is a fantastic city. Low crime, lots of things to do. I don't know as much about Ark, but Fayetteville, as a town......well, I'll just say its not for me. Some people may like it, though.

Thanks for the "Welcome"! I am excited about getting started in August. I think the only question I have right now is if there is anything I can do to prepare for next year?
