10 School update:

Accepted: 6

Rejected: 1

Waitlisted: 2

I went to a reception for St. Mary's accepted students and I was pleasantly surprised by this school. I enjoyed my time there and got to meet a few Dallas area Alumni; they definitely wowed my wife and won her over. I think this is where I want to go!! It's getting really exciting! This was my number 4 when I first started. It has moved to the top of my list after that reception.

I have not heard from Texas Wesleyan Law since an e-mail was sent to me on 3/21 saying that a decision would be slow given a medical emergency regarding the Dean. That decision was suppose to be made 4/11 but nothing has changed. What's up with that?

Additional info & updates

Non-Traditional Applicant. Married father of three; worked full-time and went to schoo full-time throughout my undergrad. Spent 4 years in the Military where I participated in Operation Enduring Freedom, traveled the world, and took in new customs and cultures. First in family college grad.

This waiting game sucks! I know everyone goes through it, but it doesn't make it any easier nonetheless. Anyway, I bored so I'm going to go through what my cycle has been like.

I didn't do so well last cycle. I re-took my LSAT this December and scored significantly higher; just goes to show what a good strategy can do for you. I still didn't score as high as I wanted, but I think the nerves got the best of me again.

I sent in three applications in October: FAMU, St. Thomas, and Texas Southern. Texas Southern made their decision before I took my LSAT in December and waitlisted me; although it's not my first choice I'd take it right now if I had to. I assume they'll seriously consider me after reviewing my new LSAT score.

FAMU sent me an e-mail stating that my application was complete and going in for review. I can't remember the date of the e-mail and I'm not going to start searching for it now.

I received the St. Thomas acceptance in the mail about two weeks ago on 01/12/2009. I have until April 15 to send in my deposit. I don't know about this school, but I'm going if this is my only option. Miami sounds great year round and just the assurance that someone accepted me is a relief.

I've sent out all my Texas schools. Texas Wesleyan, Texas Tech, South Texas, SMU, St. Mary's and Texas Southern of course.

In the last week 1/18-1/23 I have received complete application emails or letters from Texas Wesleyan 1/22.

St. Mary's sent me a confirmation letter saying they received my application 1/22.

1/23 - South Texas sent e-mail with status checker information. Status checker says "in progress"

1/26 - Texas Tech sent me an e-mail regarding application receipt and status checker information.

1/27- Valpo sent e-mail saying they have received and are processing my application

1/27 - Mississippi College sent e-mail saying that my application is complete and is being processed.

2/2 - Mississippi College status checker read "Congratulations. You have been accepted." Good lower tiered school; might just think about it.

2/4- I was at the World of Concrete Convention in Las Vegas this weekend and my wife called me while I was with potential clients: Accepted to St. Mary's School of Law! Wow! I'm staying in TX! I keep hearing how good of a Law School this is but it's ranked really low. What's up with that?

2/5 - Recieved Acceptance letter from Mississippi College through mail. Two page letter with a personalized message from the Dean. That was pretty cool! I'm going to check this school out just because of that.

2/5 - Valpo status checker reads "file in review".

2/5 - South Texas sent e-mail stating application complete and ready for review after Feb. 15 deadline.

2/13 - Florida A&M acceptance letter in the mail..."welcome to the family" sticker on the front of the envelope. It's weird though.....no money. I have a close friend of mine in the area, but I don't think this is going to work.

2/14 - St. Mary's scholarship letter; $12000.00 Deans scholarship. It's something.

3/12 - Tech ding was a bummer, but it's not going to bring me down too much. I'm going to Law School regardless; just going to pay handsomely to do it; LOL....

2/19 - Texas Tech status checker finally went complete.

2/23 - Valpo Status Checker said decision sent via mail.

2/26 - Valpo Dean called to congratulate me on my acceptance for admissions. I need to see the package; they really wanted to accept me last year for sure and this year they did. I owe it to them to at least mull it over. 2/29 - Received big package from Valparaiso today.....50% tuition scholarship!!!!!!!!!!DAMN!!!!!!!!I'm really going to have to give Indiana a second thought. I might not stay in Tx afterall.

3/9 - Texas Tech Rejection....WTF>>Really?!!! I'm kinda taken aback, but oh well. Not even a waitlist from TT.

3/24 - Not a word from SMU, TWU, or STCL.....I'm getting kind of sick of all this waiting. I did visit St. Mary's and that's definitely a school I love having as a second choice. Great faculty, facilities, and gym; oh and they have dorms. Sending in my money on April 1; can't wait much longer on local schools.

3/31 - Recieved invitation to 'celebrate diversity' meeting with professors and alumns from South Texas School of Law

1/2 - Received acceptance letter from STCL...not so sure about this one though. I really like St. Mary's and unless Texas Wesleyan or my long shot SMU come a callin; I'm going to St. Mary's.

4/9 - Received weird e-mail from TWU regarding decision delay. Apparently a Dean had a medical emergency which caused the delay. Don't know what to make of it; I mean I hope everything is okay with the Dean, but will it affect my decision status in terms of numbers. I don't know.

4/15 - SMU or TWU have not sent me anything other than that one e-mail from TWU. SMU is a long shot, but I thought I'd at least get a rejection by now. I sent my deposit money in to St. Mary's. I guess I'm going to San Antonio.

5/11 - So I look at my status checker for SMU this morning and what do I see? Waitlisted......I was bummed to begin with and then I started looking on the bright side. I wasn't rejected. Sent in a letter of continued interest and hoping for the best. Sent my money to St. Mary's.

My boyfriend and best friend were both in the Marines together and I'm a Navy baby so I have a lot of respect for the service. It's like all up and through my DNA :O) I worked two years for a general practice firm and realized it was too slow for me. The last three years I've been doing asbestos railroad law/personal injury. Absolutely love it, but doubt it's the path for me. We'll see though right?

LOL, the strip. Well it's not what it once was. The rules they have now definitely make it more touristy than hang out Saturday nightish. It's a money maker, I understand, but I miss the days of reckless abandon cruising the strip and hanging out on The Block. I'm going where the money is! I would love to go to UR, but if it doesn't benefit me at all then I'll have to reconsider that choice. I still have some schools to consider so we'll see.

Thanks! They were the only school that made no contact with me...no words on being complete or any acknowledgement of my application. A month later, I got the 1pg acceptance letter in the mail. It looks like we applied to many of the same schools, good luck on your cycle!

Congrats!

Congrats on St. Mary's! At least they were fairly quick on their decisions...now the wait continues!

Yeah, I've been in San Antonio my entire life, so St. Mary's is nice to have been accepted to. I would like to get out of San Antonio though. The area around the school is okay, I'd recommend living somewhere else. Congrats though!

I used to live about a mile from St. Mary's. The westside is OK, but Medical center is mcuh nicer and more trendy. So far st. Mary's is the only school I've applied to. I work for the USPS so I will be attending in the evening if accepted. Good Luck.
