If you really think my profile is fake, email me and ask me about it before posting something derogatory on here. If you think it's silly that Houston and GW admitted me while Charlotte denied me, join the club, and consider the extent to which our country judges individuals primarily on their past actions rather than on their present character and future potential.

Additional info & updates

Two felony character and fitness disclosures from 2005.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12/2/10: WL'ed by Texas Tech, told they would re-review in the Spring.

12/8/10: Dinged by email by CSL.

12/15/10: In at Houston! "Decision Rendered- Admitted" on the status checker.

12/20/10: Admission letter from U of H by mail! Separate letter stating that the offer is conditional upon their receipt of official documentation of my C&F disclosures that is consistent with my application. Based on the wording ("You may begin your search for these documents at the relevant college, police department, or court..."), it is a generic form letter sent to all with C&F disclosures, whether academic or criminal.

12/29/10: Dinged by status checker at U Maine, letter received 1/4/2011.

1/6/11: Got email from Charlotte offering AAMPLE. Laughed, then got a bad taste in my mouth about it. They denied me but offered me AAMPLE, which is supposed to be for students with borderline numbers. It seems plain as day that they offered this to me because of my C&F, as a way of extracting additional dollars from me. Dear CSL, I am not desperate to go to any law school, let alone yours. Sincerely, me.

1/7/11: NE deferred me to regular applicant pool with decision to be rendered by 4/15/11.

1/10/11: Dinged by email at Georgetown.

1/14/11: Dinged by status checker at Franklin Pierce/UNH.

1/18/11: In by email from GW.

1/26/11: Snail mail admission package from GW. I had applied ED, I was admitted RD, no scholarship.

2/14/11: Under review at Harvard.

2/15/11: Dinged by email from UVA.

3/8/11: Under review at Chicago. Very slow past six weeks.

3/11/11: Dinged by email (telling me to check the status checker) from Northwestern.

3/24/11: Dinged by email from Chicago. UR dates 3/8, 3/16, 3/24.

3/28/11: Checked GW financial aid online, saw $7,000 need-based grant award.

3/31/11: Waitlisted at Northeastern. On 1/7/11, I was deferred to regular applicant pool, today that was changed to actual waitlist.

3/31/11: Dinged by status checker only at Fordham.

4/5/11: Rejected by snail mail letter from Texas Tech with (possibly boilerplate) instructions to call for advice on how to reapply for better results next year. If other schools normally do this, I feel like this text has tended not to appear on letters from schools that clearly do not want me to reapply.

4/8/11: Dinged by email from Yale.

4/13/11: Dinged by email from Harvard.

5/23/11: Still waiting to hear from Texas Wesleyan. Scholarship money and other compelling personal circumstances may convince me to stay local, otherwise I will head to DC in August.

5/26/11: Received notice of $2,200 "tuition grant" from Houston, 41 days after I withdrew...

Despite your C&F issues, you should apply to more schools and higher ranked schools. Your GPA/LSAT is pretty competitive at the T14.

Yes, they were convictions. I won't go into detail on the charges, but more than one dean of admission has told me that they have admitted students with 'worse' convictions than mine, and I've had assistance from one in preparing my character and fitness statement.

Charlotte?..

I love how Houston admits you and Charlotte rejects you! What a damn joke. Congratulations, and I hope even better schools than Houston will look past your history and give you a shot.

Hi, I see that you applied EA to NE and were deferred to the regular pool. I applied EA and was full on WL. I am just curious how they articulated to you that you were deferred rather than full-on WL. Status checker? Thanks and good luck!

Thank you for the congrats. GW emailed me on Monday saying that I was in and then I received the packet on Saturday. It was postmarked Jan 11th.

If you don't get GW or UVA, reapply early next cycle and blanket the entire T17, (minus YHS) plus T30 schools in regions you would like to practice. Even with your prior convictions, someone is bound to bite with your numbers. Good luck!

Congrats

Brentford: there is a five year post-discharge prohibition on applying to the Texas bar, but I don't intend to sit for the Texas bar anyhow. NY is case by case and has good precedent for someone in my situation. General update: I enrolled part-time at GW (I was admitted full time but forewent the grant so I could keep working). I'm currently a 3L(E) with a year to go. Law school GPA is >4.0. To anyone in my position, don't give up. You may need to work ten times harder than your neighbor, but don't give up. Life is too short to settle for anything less than your best. PM me with questions.
