Additional info & updates

So my cycle is done! What a great and happy surprise ending. As I said earlier (I kept up the original info I posted in the fall), my LSAT was rather disappointing due to a bubbling error. I applied anyway, and had a TON of WLs... I was all set to work in NYC for two years, literally a day from signing a lease when I was admitted to Harvard. It was such a shock, but felt amazing.

I hope my profile helps other URMs with the application process. I think what helped me get H was my ability to talk about my family crisis in a way that showed my own personal growth, and I translated it into academic achievement as a senior honors thesis topic. I had very specific interests with incredible recommendations, and I will say my story is unique enough that every adcom who read it will remember it. From the schools where I was admitted, each of the adcoms commented on the strength of my PS.

In all, I would say work on your LSAT--I screwed up and things still went great, but they very well could have gone poorly. It is better to hold off until you think you did your best (or close), than to gamble. After your LSAT, make sure you have close relationships with the people who are writing on your behalf, and try to establish a theme throughout your application in order to provide a discernable picture of who you are.

-----

Pretty unique background and story, family crises have led to a massive change in my demographic. Writing my PS on my family crisis and the ways in which it has molded who I am and driven me towards Law.

Messed up on LSAT--mis-bubbled 6 in a row, would have gotten a 171. I am applying this cycle just to see if I can make it to some of my top schools (which are now reaches). Otherwise, planning on retaking come June and reapplying first thing next cycle.

Can contact for extra details.

2-3-12: fourth complete at BU

2-6-12: Held at Northwestern. No WHY NU, no interview.

2-9-12: Held at Columbia... BAH, there goes it

2-10-12: University of Connecticut Scholar plus a 3,100 named scholly. so Full tuition and expenses plus 3100 first year. not too shabby.

3-22-12: Georgetown Scholly Financial aid. The total 97500 is for all three years, and includes both merit and financial aid. I'm not sure how much is merit, but they told me that I would get 32500 each year combined. Not so bad!

4-23-12: Been off this for a while. I was resigned to reapplying next year--I accepted a job in NYC, found an apartment, everything. Then I got a KB1 email! What a shock. Completely threw off everything. Anyway, my interview is Thursday, I still feel like it's a long shot but having this sort of interest is flattering!

What?!!! If you retake and get a 171 or higher as a URM with a gpa like that you will get full rides at your top school or in at harvard/Yale probably. I would withdraw if I was you. If you get accepted by a school like Michigan, for example, and then say "nah I want to retake the LSAT," you may create a bad impression. You could get a full scholarship there next year possibly if you raise that score up to your potential and it would not be rude to withdraw now and say that you wish to reapply next year with a better application and gain work experience or something. Just one guys opinion of course.

Hey, I heard from GW a little over a week ago. They sent me a merit scholarship email over a month ago, and I sent them what I had at the time. I will probably be withdrawing
