Additional info & updates

It was a last minute decision for me to apply to American schools. I'm not even sure whether I can even afford it.

Canadian Schools:

Accepted:
U of T
Queen's
Ottawa
Western

Waitlisted:
McGill

I think I'll probably end up at U of T. Good school, great city, MUCH better price vs American schools. I'm poor. :(

I have looked into my magical crystal ball... and this is what I am predicting....

Columbia - Waitlist, rejected
Duke - Waitlist, accepted
Harvard - rejected
Stanford - rejected
Michigan - accepted
Virginia - waitlist, accepted.

Do I get bonus points if I'm right??

02/27/07

Apparently I'm wrong. I've been accepted to UVa. It's nice to be accepted somewhere, though I doubt I'll end up there....

No bonus points for me. Funny that my status just changed to decision yesterday and I got my letter in the mail today... wow USPS is fast!

02/28/07

Found out I was accepted to Duke through an email, as my package has yet to arrive..... hmmm... guess USPS isn't so fast?

03/23/07

went on vacation, came back to a stack of mail:

deferred at columbia. that's ok. I didn't actually want to go there. I have decided to withdraw. no point in being considered if I don't actually want to go.

financial aid package from Toronto. they've deemed my parental contribution to be high. I am, in reality, getting noting from my parents. I still don't believe in Toronto's policy. It's making me rethink my desire to go there.

scholarship from duke. I like them. they are very persistent, and seem to have really paid attention to my application. I am rethinking my decision not to go there.

waitlist at mcgill. wait.... waitlist?? not trying to be conceited, but I find that hard to believe. is it because I didn't suck up to them enough in my ps? or that my ps was bad in general?? I still don't get it... and am shaking my head. I'm not going to bother waiting around though, withdrawing.

03/28

waitlisted at michigan. I thought their email about it was very nice. undecided about what I want to do. I think I would like Michigan.

04/15

so i've decided to go to school in canada. unfortunately, it is just too expensive to go to the US. i'll keep the harvard/stanford applications active as harvard has a great program for international student financial aid, and stanford... well... i just REALLY want to go to stanford.

05/03

Got the waitlist letter from Harvard. I guess I'm just one more person in the pile of those who were interviewed and didn't get admitted. (at least not right away! hey, i can be hopeful!) I decided to stay on it, as I don't think it's an opportunity I should give up, even knowing how slim the chances probably are. I'm working from the assumption that I will be going to U of T next year though, and I'm looking forward to it!

05/09

Got an email from Harvard on Monday, found out today that I have been accepted off the waitlist. I am in shock right now. The only reason I am not on the phone calling everyone I know and instead updating my lsn profile is that everyone I know seems not to be not answering their phone right now.

Sorry, I rarely check this site. I was accepted by Harvard in early January (and received my interview in late December). Congrats on UofT. I'm assuming you'll be going to the open house this friday :)

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words bepa...but I've decided to pass on law school for now. That means more spots will eventually be opening up for you down south. Good luck!

You were called, bepa? When? (I'm still waiting for their decision, and we went complete on the same day.)

Thanks for your reply. Good luck getting off the waitlist! (I'm hoping to be accepted for the same reason as you: their loan program for international students. Well, and because it's Harvard of course.)

hey congrats congrats on HLS! I'm also waitlisted there and was wondering if you had sent in any additional material after getting waitlisted? (although looking at your dates posted up there, doesn't look like you would have had time to...) oh and what stuff did he ask in the first phone call? thanks so much!
