I saw your post in someone else's profile and came over to wish you luck because of your insightful commentary to others. We need more honest thoughtful people in law schools. I hope you get into a great school!

Good Luck w/ Vandy

Blaveed, A few things helped me with Vandy: 1. My application was last minute, but my numbers were pretty good. I think that they may have wanted to accept me initially, but had a full class. Thats just speculation, though. 2. I expressed continued interest, told them that I would accept their offer of admission above where I was currently planning to attend (WUSTL) and forego a 45K scholarship. 3. I told them that I'd accept an offer regardless of aid (no scholarships or grants). 4. *Most importantly* I had three really great conversations with the admissions officer who ended up offering me admission. We talked for a while each time and about things that actually had nothing to do with law school (strangely enough). He and I got along really well and I think that gave me someone who was lobbying for my admission. Coupling that with my numbers, I think thats what did it. Call the office, come up with a shitload of questions (that can transition into genuine personal conversation), show them that you're a good and interesting person that is worried more about quality of life issues than minor law school-related inquiries that they hear about every day and just work on getting a friend on the office. The rest will depend on factors outside your control (which will be dictated by action coming with their second deposit deadline, June 15?).

I am in pretty much the same situation as you are buddy. The wait list is unbelievably hugh (1000+). I have sopken with them on a couple of occasions this year and right now there are 210+ people who have sent in seat deposits for a class of 195 or so. The fact that last year was over-admitted does not help our chances too much either. Willard made some good observations. It is going to depend upon a) having more than twenty people who have already sent in their seat deposit go elsewhere and b) standing out from all of the rest of us who also would love to sneak in later this summer. Best of luck. I would really welcome any advice that you might have as well.

I sent you an email, but for anyone else's benefit I'll go ahead and post here. My words of wisdom are: "Everything Willard said" I was in the same boat, did the same things. I sent an additional letter of recommendation. Called enough to let them know I was interested without being a pest. Told them that if accepted, that I would enroll with 100% certainty. Vanderbilt was THE only option for me. Like Willard, I struck up 2 or 3 good conversations with the admissions officer too. They are very friendly and helpful, and I asked questions candidly. We mostly chatted about our homestates, extracurricular activities, and similar non-law-related stuff. like lawschoolonline said, they have a huge waitlist...they aren't ranking it so you have to do something to stand out. Best of luck to you all

I actually had no contact with Vandy and was caught off guard when they called me (Didn't even remember staying on the WL). In addition I just got off the Notre Dame WL also having had no contact with them. That being said I am turning down both offers today (7/8) so perhaps another seat will be vacant. (Attending BC w/ $$$) I'm sure that if I were anxiously awaiting offers they wouldnt come but I guess that's the way life goes. Best of luck!
