Additional info & updates

31 years old. Married, two children. US Army veteran. 12 years corporate experience as System Administrator.

11/2/2010 - Accepted to Richmond. 20K Scholarship. Dean Rahman called and gave me the news. An amazing feeling.

11/7/2010 - Denied at UT via the status checker. I logged on this morning and there it was "application denied 11/4/10". Ugh.

11/11/2010 - Accepted at Washington and Lee via status checker. Nice!! Was really hoping for a "Yes" from this school.

11/15/2010 - Accepted at American University via status checker.

11/22/2010 - Accepted at University of Baltimore via regular mail.

11/23/2010 - Accepted at Penn State via email. A great local school option for me.

12/6/2010 - Accepted to George Mason via phone call. Really excited about this DC school.

12/10/2010 - Accepted to Wake Forest via email. Really excited, awaiting news on Illinois later today.

12/10/2010 - Accepted to Illinois via email. $15,000 per year scholarship. It's all crazy, I really didn't expect to be admitted to this school.

12/13/2010 - Accepted to Pitt via status checker. Waiting for official letter for scholarship information.

Halfway through my cycle and things have gone well so far. I have been accepted to 9 out of 10 schools. The only rejection came from Texas, which was unfortunately far and away the school I most wanted to attend. on the other hand getting accepted to Illinois with a 15k a year scholarship was completely unexpected and seriously appreciated. Right now, Illinois is probably the school I most want to attend with Richmond a close second.

I don't expect these next ten schools to go anywhere near as well. If I could get five acceptances I would be truly ecstatic. Anything more than five means I'm the luckiest person alive or my file got mixed up with someone else.

12/17/2010 - Accepted to Villanova via status checker. On 12/23 I received scholarship information through the mail. $20,000 a year for all three years. This is a great deal for me since I am in state. I have no idea how I am ever going to choose one of these schools.

12/23/2010 - Accepted to University of Maryland via regular mail. Letter said I had been selected as a finalist and was offered to interview for Leadership Scholars Program.

12/23/2010 - Accepted to Minnesota via phone call. Mailed letter to come next week.

12/24/2010 - Waitlisted at Indiana, on Christmas Eve no less via regular mail.

12/28/2010 - Waitlisted at George Washington via email. Oh well, I guess the good times in this cycle are over. Just five schools remain and I could easily be rejected by all of them. Still a great run though.

1/18/2011 - Received $25,000 a year, for all three years, scholarship from Penn. State. Scholarship came with official offer letter via regular mail.

1/22/2011 - Received $5,00 for three years from Washington & Lee. Offer cam via regular mail. W&L tuition reached $40,000 this year. Doesn't look great for me attending W&L. Rumors of Wake Forrest scholarship letters to be emailed next Monday. We shall see.

1/23/2011 - Waitlisted at Virginia. At least I was rejected (I'm looking at you Texas). However, I'm still probably not getting in.

1/24/2011 - Received $15,000 a year for three years from Wake Forrest. Offer cam via email.

1/27/2011 - Held for later decision at Northwestern. Seems like a fancy way of saying waitlist. Additionally, NU said they would not be re-visiting held applications until May, after several schools have already required one or two seat deposits. No thanks NU. I do appreciate the non-rejection though, Texas remains the only school to reject me. I type this wearing a Texas Longhorns sweatshirt and thinking about the Longhorns game versus Missouri tomorrow night. Just three schools left...

2/4/2011 - The carnage of the last few schools continues. Waitlisted at Boston today. Followed by a rejection at UPenn a few hours later. Just one school left. A William and Mary acceptance would be a nice way to round this process out.

3/15/2011 - I was Waitlisted at William and Mary today. A word of advice to anyone who may read this. If a school holds your application for four months its not because they can't figure out the wording on your acceptance letter.

My cycle is officially over. I am waiting for a scholarship interview day with Maryland and if I get good money from them that is where I plan to attend. New law school rankings came out today and Maryland moved up six spots to number 42. I am also considering Penn State (who moved up 12 spots to number 60) and Richmond (who moved up 20 spots to number 67). And finally, I haven't ruled out University of Baltimore who offered a full scholarship (checked in at number 117, better than I would have thought). I will be back to post my final decision in early April.

4/1/2011 - I attended the University of Maryland Scholarship Interview Day. Everything was first class and I really enjoyed the mock classes. I was offered $17,500 which 50% of cost for out of state students.

4/2/2011 - I attended the University of Baltimore Law preview day and really enjoyed it. I have decided to attend Univ. of Baltimore because of full scholarship offer and their focus on and ability to get graduates jobs in the city of Baltimore. I would encourage any applicant considering Baltimore to visit. The school is opening a new law building in 2012. I also thought the school was in a better part of town compared to the University of Maryland. The Dean spoke at the Law Preview Day and took questions as well. I thought he was sensational and his remarks about the school and their focus on finding jobs for graduates made a large impact on me. Finally, and maybe most importantly, University of Baltimore School of Law has way cooler jackets and shirts than the University of Maryland.

I hope this is useful to anyone that might read it, I know during my application process I was on this site extensively looking at other people's numbers and seeing where they where admitted, where they choose to go, and why. Good luck to all future applicants.

I'm not a VA or DC resident, but I like GMU's location. I'm still waiting on GW though; I know it's a stretch, but I love the school.

U Balt

Congrats on a great cycle. I went to an accepted students day at U Balt. THe Dean has had to two biggest increases in rankings (U Balt and his previous school which I don't recall off hand). He strongly feels that U Balt will be in the top 100 by the time this class graduates....just something to think about with such a nice scholarship offer.

Congrats!!!

Congrats on making your decision. I think UB is a great choice (especially with a full scholarship). Best of luck.
