Extra Curricular Information

Married, non-traditional student (32 when I applied).

Served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force as a computer and communication systems programmer

Used the G.I. Bill to finance most of my college education. Graduated in May 2004 with a B.A. in History and in August 2005 with a M.S. in Teacher Education (same thing as an M.S. Ed I guess).

1st person in my family to get a college degree of any sort.

Worked between 20 and 30 hours each week while going to college, nothing law related but some interesting jobs just the same.

I received a few academic awards: Dean's Lists, Top Collegiate Scholar, etc.

My extracurricular activities were farily weak in my opinion. Some church related activities, community stuff like Adopt-A-Mile, and not much else.

After scoring a 163 on the Oct 05 LSAT, I upped my score on the Dec 05 test to a 172. I wrote an addendum about some personal things that happened in the weeks prior to the test that negatively affected my Oct LSAT score. Not really sure if this affected any admission decisions.

Additional info & updates

Received application fee waivers from Michigan, Penn, NYU, Baylor, and several others which I do not remember. Only used the ones from Michigan and Penn.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

WFU - Invited to compete for the Fletcher (full tuition, books, and stipend) but was unable to attend the competition. :( ***Just received notification (on 3/21/06) that I received the Law Alumni Council's Annual Fund Scholarship, which pays full tuition each year if I remain in the 2/3 of my class. If not in top 2/3 of class and still in good standing I receive 50%. Currently, tuition is $27,900 a year.***

UNC - Chancellors' Scholarship $12,500 a year

W&L - Honors Scholarship $25,000 a year

Vandy - Chancellor's Law Scholarship $22,000 a year ***Total scholarship amount was increased by $5,000 a year due to an additional stipend award***

Duke - Duke Law Scholarship $14,000 a year ***Managed to negotiate my scholarship amount up to $18,000 a year using Vandy's original offer as "leverage"***

Virginia - Scholarship worth $15,000 a year

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Decision dates are the days that I received either an e-mail or a regular mail letter notifying me of the decision.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have decided not to go on Michigan's waitlist, since I have almost zero desire to go to Ann Arbor.

Did not accept an offer to go on Penn's waitlist.

I had not entered the $$$ amount until just a minute ago. I was notified by email - both getting in and the scholarship.

Congrats on Duke!! I'm planning on attending Duke and was wondering if you applied for the scholarship or if they just sent you a letter offering you one. I'm also hoping to get $ from Duke...any tips?
