I am a Spanish major, Linguistics minor from the University of Mississippi, though a Little Rock, AR-native. I will be graduating in May 2010 and am taking part in the 2009-2010 cycle.
I scored a 160 on the June LSAT but having studied with Kaplan for the past semester, my practice test scores have been around 165 (165/164/166 on the last 3 I've taken). I am taking the December LSAT and will then be applying early decision for UALR in hopes of earning a Bowen Fellowship. I won't be applying to any other schools. If I don't get into UALR, I'll probably teach Spanish next year.
12/14 - Right, well, my info packet from LSAC probably won't be complete in time for the Bowen Fellowship deadline. I have my LSAT score, a transcript from a summer class I took at UCA in 2007, and that's it. My transcript from Ole Miss is supposed to go out on Wednesday or Thursday of this week (finals grades go up tonight at 9 pm), so hopefully it will get to LSAC and be processed before December 24th, since they'll be closed from then to January 1st.
So basically, my chances for actually getting a fellowship are slim. I wish I had had some sort of timeline as to when to do all this stuff. If I'd known about the fellowship earlier, I would have taken the LSAT in September or October or whenever. The fall LSAT rather than the winter one, basically. I would have gotten my transcripts in order back in October and sent another one with my Fall 2009 grades on them just to be safe. Now, I'm basically gambling with time.
Regardless of all this, I bit the bullet and submitted my application to UALR. I figure, even if I don't get a early decision fellowship, at least they'll consider me for general admission. Fingers crossed!
12/23 - Finally got my confirmation e-mail from LSAC. My transcript has been received and processed, just in time to miss being sent out before the scholarship deadline. Why on earth they get to take 10 days off for Christmas and New Year's is beyond me. I mean, I'm no slave driver. Take the 23rd through the 27th off. Work a half week, then take a half week. Then, hop back into the office on the 28th, 29th, and 30th and send off those transcripts! Then, feel free to take off the 31st through the 3rd. You still get a good chunk of time off, and I get my application finished. Win, win!
12/28 - It seems LSAC got my hint. Kind of wish they hadn't now...Got my December LSAT. Not good. 60th percentile not good. Don't know how I went from the 90th in practices to the 60th in actual. A little bit depressed. But at least I have a better score available. I think I'm going to blame Agnes, the foreign girl who sat next to me who was both smelly and in need of a NutriGrain bar. Her stomach kept growling throughout the test. And you know how they say don't erase during the writing sample? Guess who was erasing like a maniac.
12/31 - Just checked and LSAC report was sent 12/28. My status for UALR currently reads "Waiting for Future Test Scores." Whatever that means. Here's to hoping I get in.
1/5 - "Your application is in review. Please allow 4-6 weeks for the Admissions Committee to render a decision." I am slightly nauseous from nerves. Keep calm and carry on.
1/12 - I'M IN!!! I HAVE A BOWEN FELLOWSHIP WITH A FULL SCHOLARSHIP COVERING ALL TUITION AND FEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1/12 - I am currently coming down from my acceptance high and feeling slightly lightheaded. I also shocked my father into silence when I told him (no small feat). I'm just so excited and can't wait to move back to LR and start law school at UALR!
Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back or deciding!
Good luck. Maybe I will be seeing you at UALR! :)
