Additional info & updates

10/27/09:

Met with the GW rep today at law fair. Was totally impressed and apparently I have a good shot at getting a full ride. Since I am interested in IP, this is a no-brainer. I'm gonna apply early decision/presidential merit scholarship (binding). Here goes!!!

11/3/09: Pulled the trigger on the GW ED app. I hope I get it!

11/6/09: Got an email saying GW received my application. I will not be applying to anymore schools until I finish my PhD dissertation and defend (in 2 1/2 weeks- YIKES)!!!

11/20/09: Just got a call from Dean Schwartz. In at UCLA with a scholarship ($ is over 3 years).

12/4/09: Just got a call from Dean Tom at Berkeley. I am in! Yeah!!!

12/11/09: Got an application from USC for the Rothman scholarship, but haven't been accepted to the school yet.

12/22/09: I just got an email saying that I got in to GW via the ED presidential merit scholar program. Yeah, I am going to law school with a full ride! My cycle is now officially over. The email stated that 28/800 people got the ED acceptance. Housing was not included in this deal.

12/26/09: Acceptance from USC via snail mail. Small white envelope.

12/27/09: Sent emails to all my other schools withdrawing my application or declining acceptance.

1/7/10: My GW scholarship amount is based on the recently released 2010-2011 tuition of $43,998/year. Since tuition increases every year, the total will actually be greater than this by the time I graduate.

West Coast vs. East Coast

Trying you hand at West Coast before heading East, huh?

Good luck!

Good luck on your dissertation! I think I am far from a sure thing on ED at GW but your numbers and PhD will totally put you on! I applied ED mostly because I currently live in DC and would prefer to stay here and getting the scholarship money would be a really big deal. I spoke with the GW people too and I had a similar good feeling but then I spoke with an old pre-law advisor at my undergrad school who said that last year GW received nearly 600 applications Early Decision and only awarded 30 or so scholarships. That made me less confident. What have you heard? Did you end up getting the fee waiver from GW?

Response to Cranberrie

Cranberrie, I did get a fee waiver from GW. I had emailed them and asked for one, but got the response that they don't give out merit-based waivers. After talking with the law school rep at a fair, I asked her about it b/c I thought she might have more authority to grant those things. Sure enough, she was able to get me one. I have heard that the median stats for the ED scholarships are 169/3.8, so you are right in there. I think a lot of people apply ED who don't have those numbers. I REALLY hope I get it and I hope you get it too! Maybe we will be classmates in a year!

Yes, I decided to head east finally. California is going through some scary times right now, so I need to keep my bases covered.

Thank you. Good luck to you also. I am also interested in IP, hence why GW is my top choice if I can get the full ride scholarship. Another month and we should know the outcome. Hope to see you in DC this coming fall. :)

Looks like you make your own luck!

Thanks for the well-wishes. Congrats on your calls from the Deans. It must feel good to know that you earned a spot at Berkeley and UCLA.

Way to Go!

Congrats. No response for me, so I am thinking ED is unlikely. Happy that you got it and wish you luck.
