Extra Curricular Information

A few clubs, mostly culture/language clubs (German Club, Anime Club, etc.). Lots of varied full/part-time work experience--retail, food service, manual labor, and now a law firm. I've also taken two semesters (so far) of Mandarin Chinese since I graduated in 2004.

Additional info & updates

I completed an honors thesis on the relationship between political attitudes and sexual orientation. I received highest honors in psychology for my work. My hope is that being gay and majoring in psychology (and political science like every other law school applicant EVER) will make me stand out a little more. Here's hoping!

Well, all apps are complete. A little bit later than I wanted them to be, but I can't change that now. Fingers crossed.

03-15-06 - Accepted at Davis via online status check. (Last one to go complete, first one to make a decision...go figure!) [Withdrew 4/04/06]

03-22-06 - Accepted at UCLA via e-mail. (SO HAPPY!! YAY!)

03-23-06 - Rejected at UCB via phone call to them (Sadtimes!)

04-27-06 - Waitlisted at Columbia via snail mail. Kinda happy about it actually since it wasn't a rejection. Optimism FTW! :P

05-02-06 - Date of letter from Chicago about the newest addition to the waitlist family. Received on 05-05-06. Feliz cinco de mayo!

05-12-06 - Date of letter from Harvard finally rejecting me. Oh, it stings (not that much). Received on 05-15-06.

07-13-06 - Date I received my waitlist rejection from Columbia.

So I went 2-2-2. Not so bad, really. I stayed on the waitlist at both Chicago and Columbia, but as I got more involved in the registration process at UCLA and read more about the Williams Institute I lost some of my fervor for writing letters of continued interest. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about moving to LA and *hopefully* getting involved somehow with the Williams Institute.

*I realized in January that I should have started my applications way earlier than I did. My application isn't particularly strong since I'm a pretty chill (lazy) type of guy (I didn't cure cancer and I don't spoon feed lepers in my spare time), but it isn't particularly weak either. Applying early would have helped me out quite a bit. My advice for people applying next year (which I heard from many people, but didn't follow), apply early!

This time on your waitlist. Maybe we could trade coasts.
