Extra Curricular Information

ECs decent but unspectacular: political clubs (some leadership positions), campus radio. Part-time work experience throughout undergrad, mostly as a library assistant, and as an LSAT teacher after I graduated in December. I was also Time Magazine's Person of the Year for 2006.

Low GPA was mainly due to the usual caveats about freshman stupidity. (In my case, sophomore stupidity since I was a community college transfer, which is also why my cumulative LSDAS GPA is the higher one.) Three recommendations, all from professors I'd taken multiple classes with.

Additional info & updates

Good luck to all the other splitters applying. Don't stop believing, hold on to that feeling, etc.

I decided to wait until January so my fall grades could be counted. In retrospect, you probably shouldn't do this. On the plus side, it pushed my GPA above a 3.0, and got me a third letter of recommendation. On the down side, you can expect at least a month of turnaround between sending off that last transcript and going complete at schools, which means you won't start going complete until late January and early February. Compare my results with those of splitters who applied in October, and it's clear you're better served applying now and updating your applications later.

Since fees are expensive, and I was poor, I had to stagger most of my applications, hence the differing SENT dates.

The choice numbers were my probabilities at each school according to Chiashu. Mmmm, nothing like four year old data! Based on the experiences of others with similar numbers, I was expecting a lot of waitlists, and wasn't disappointed. The sordid, date-by-date tale of Waitlist-Go-Round-2007 was as follows:

Deferred at Northwestern via online status check 2/16.
Waitlisted at Michigan via email on 3/01.
Waitlisted at Virginia via envelope on 3/05.
Waitlisted at Texas via email on 3/09.
Withdrew from Washington & Lee on 3/28.
Held at Chicago via envelope on 4/02.
Waitlisted at UCLA via envelope on 4/12.
Withdrew from Washington University on 4/27.
Waitlisted at Northwestern via online status check 5/16.

I allowed my waitlist offers at UCLA and Northwestern to lapse. Neither of them seemed like enough of a jump from Texas to justify the massively increased cost of forgoing in-state tuition.
